Kev_A
Just completed my clear rear indicator mod last night and I'd bought a pair of L.E.D indicator bulbs off ebay, these ones... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=260398094608 They fit perfectly but I didn't think to try the individual indicators, just put the hazards on to make sure they illuminated, went to pick the g/f up tonight, 1st drive after fitting them and everytime I indicate they repeat too fast, the light (and the click noise) goes too quick, yet all of the indicators work, what could be causing this? SMiFFAD
lack of load on your indicators due to the bulbs - i think. The whole system is regulated by the load, which is why if one bulb goes it tends to flash manically.
JustGav
LEDs don't have the same resistance as normal bulbs and as such affect the timing circuit, you will need to install some resistors to get the speed down.
NeoFuture
speak to heckler, you need a load resister i believe on the back or front indicator
NeoFuture
i actually need to find this out myself too !
NeoFuture
I use a 10 ohm, 50 watt power resistor - couple of quid from RS or rapid electronics on a previous post dunno if its what we need tho
Kev_A
Hmm, I see, would this just need soldering inline on one of the indicators?

heckler
Exactly as Gav has said A load resistor needs to be put in parallel with the bulb

heckler
heckler just 1 each side ? 50 w 6 ohm do it ? One for each led bulb. 6 ohm 50w will be fine
NeoFuture
not 6 surely ?
heckler
not 6 surely ? Appart from the side repeaters, they don't effect the loading of the relay - so only
NeoFuture
oh ok 4 it is then
DJButler
Quote from article in previous post "Wait – there’s more. Aftermarket LED-style bulbs are becoming more common. But, because they’re not compatible with an SAE-type relay, you’ll need to use the heavy-duty-style flasher if you replace your incandescent bulbs with LEDs". Am i right in thinking nobody read my previous post!!!! Edited May 7, 2009 by DJButler punctuation (see edit history)
