View Full Version : Flamer kit
A bit F&F but i want one big time. Would it work well on my NA?? :conf:
*shudder*
:)
Are you full decatted? If so it should work OK, results vary a great deal though so you can't be sure until it's on the car.

PMSL @ *shudder*
Im gonna get one when i get my new NUR or RSR so will prob decat it too. MOT is in may so will be very shortly after that.
Cheers for the quick reply dude.
Try this (http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7085&highlight=flamer) thread.
Cheers Lee. nice one.
Was waiting for your appearance Neil! :D :p
My car had a "Flame Kit" installed before I bought it. I was never able to get any flames though. Its wired exactly as stated earlier. Just the tip of a plug inserted into the exhaust thats connected to a coil in the boot, thats turned on by a switch at the drivers console.
I will see if I can get some flames next week when the Supe is back with full PHR mid-pipe and downpipe with new Tubby.

*double shudder* :)
So you are going to drill a hole in a brand new exhaust too, brave man ;)
I invested in a few flamer kits a while ago to make a fast buck on eBay, bought them in at about £15 and they sold for £70 or so without coil, HT leads or switches - even I was paying over the odds at £15! I never actually fitted one to my own car (MR2 at the time) but saw a few others with them on and they were 'ok'.
You can get some really clever kits from the US, ones with their own gas supplies for cool blue flames etc - be wary of the sites that tell you that a wire with a spark plug is enough though, you really do need the box of tricks to pulse the spark in order to get a decent result.
I have a few interesting links on a PC at home, I'll try and dig them out for you and post details tonight.
Ive been looking in to this as well.
Here is a much better suggestion and its not rice.
Its a rev limiter that redirects fuel to make a flame on set limit.

This is what i was looking at a few days earlier! See my thread: Rev limiter. - down the technical page, all is explained there and this is why im also going for a flamer kit!
PS the link is not working. :p

I'vw got a flamer kit on mine... Only works when your changing gear passed 2nd... Looks great.. At 90mph you can see the flame go over the top of the rear spoiler from the rear view mirror.

I've got both cats out and its just the spark plug in the tip of the exhaust which isn't visable.
I've been told the flames go about 15/20ft when i'm doing 70+ :-)
Not sure how true that is, but i know they are quite big.

Ok well i dont have both cats out, so mine not gonna be that big at moment, if any at all. :(
But when i get new exhaust at end of april,i might as well buy De-cat pipes as well.

19...damn there goes the youngest owner...lol
im a NA as well so should get even bigger, well im hopeing...it gives bigger sound, it would make sense bigger flames :baa:
Just thought I would mention its illegal.
Just so nobody has any suprises. :)
Is it illegal if your car belches flames out as a result of your ECU tuning rather than pushing a button?
It would still be classed as illegal as your car would be a damger to the public (as the law sees it). Same reason you have to have head lights on the car even during the day, wiper when it's not rainging etc.

I can't say i've been pulled for it, but then again i don't have the tendancy to flick the switch on going past police cars :innocent:
I think they'd prob do you for something though..
Yes mr officer - That 15ft flame was down to my ecu problem.....
- Don't think they'd somehow have that one...

Did anyone spot the post I made earlier about flamers?
I've just made 10 sets for a company.
Included the control box, spark plug, long lead, coil and cable for £50 all in.
Yes you can make your own cheaper and I'll even sell a box of bits for you to solder together for £10 (you get the coil, lead and plugs etc)
The £50 only just covers my time to colder it together.
Regards
Pete

Sorry wrong there dude , you dont need ANY lights on a car or motorcycle or a windscreen or even a floor if it has a full chassis , and you dont even need to use your lights at night if the street lights are a certain distance apart !!!!

So when they say on the box of car bulbs its illegal to drive a car with a malfunctioning bulb at any time day or night is it a lie to sell more bulbs!

No , if the headlights are fitted they have to work , Unless they are permanently disconnected !!!!

Nope if it is on the veichle it must operate correctly
For instance motorbikes dont have to have indicators, but if are on the motorbike all must work correctly and for that instance cars dont have to have them either if produced before a certain date
as others have said : you don't actually need to have lights BUT legally if you have them they have to work.
But also you can't just remove the lights and use the vehicle on the public road, you have to also remove all wiring and switches etc.
I know this for a fact because I was nicked once for riding an RD350LC with a full race fairing (ie no headlight) on the road in daylight hours. Apparently, the fact that the wiring for the lights was still intact meant that I was breaking the law.
