Another week, another new crop of Supras in the Autotrader.

Saturday

Went to a dealer in Maidstone that I had twice spoken to on the phone, to view a '98 TT tiptronic model.

Phone conversation

Me "has it got 17" wheels?"

Dealer " oh yes sir"

Me " then in that case does it have the big 4/2 piston calipers"

Dealer "yes its got the big brakes"

Me "i'm very picky, what condition is the car in"

Dealer " Oh its really good, you won't be dissapointed"

Do I really need to tell you the rest :(

I drive 30 miles, and its on 16's so obviously no big brakes.

I asked the dealer if he knew the difference and he said no, so I showed him the larger brake setup on another Supra he had there. He then said that it wasn't him that told me, must have been someone else. Great consolation :(

I wouldn't have said that it was in excellent condition, it was OK but if the mileage was correct (32000) it had certainly done them all the hard way. The body showed signs of previous repairs and it generally wasn't the type of car that I'd pay, wait for it, 18 grand for. It made some of the others I'd looked at look quite good.

He had 3 other Supras there but none were what I was looking for.

On the way home I had a drive of a TVR Chimaera, What a sound, why don't Supras sound like that :)

It was quick, but not blisteringly fast, and it drove OK but definitely felt old technology. I really would like to have something like that but I really don't think that its a good idea as a daily driver.

Jumped in my MR2 turbo and realised what I'm looking for is a V8 MR2 :)

So I'm still in the market for a Supra (probably :D)

'97 or '98 facelift Twin Turbo

preferably manual but maybe tiptronic

low mileage circa 30-40000

no mods (except maybe good sounding exhaust :))

must be immaculate or better :D

I know Paul Whiffen has got a likely candidate, but he was away this weekend. If work allows I'll try to catch up with him during the week. He's only 20 miles away, but its the wrong side of London. ie 20 miles South takes 30 mins, 20 miles North takes 2 hours each way :(

If anyone has heard of anything that may fit the bill please let me know

Geoff
