Power Steering

Hi,

was looking for some advice as i might be going to view a supe tomorrow.

The gent has said that the only slight problem is that the steering is quiet heavy at low speeds and reckons it could just need the belt tightening up?

What are the possible causes for this, i.e rack/pump etc and the price that these problems would cost to fix?

i know its a bit hard to diagnose with the limited info but some suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks guys

Miles

I believe the supra has speed sensitive steering (heavier with speed) and it could be something to do with that. It could also be controlled by vacuum like mensioned above.

You want me to go along with you to look at it mate, is it a TT....?

Dodgy speedo converstion (i.e a speed senstive steering issue) usually makes the steering too light.. not the other way.

Check the crank pulley, heavy steering is a common sign of CP failure - the centre wheel will become detached from the iner and cause the entire drive belt to under speed - causing all sorts of issues
