If you go to a place where insurance jobs get done you are going to get ripped off. A respray can't be any more than a weeks labour (40 hours) not including drying time so its unfair to charge crazy amounts. I always go to experienced body shops where the sprayer has a few years on him. That way you get a proper sprayer who doesn't rely on technology. The guy i am going to only ever has 2 younger guys working with him. He is renound where i am and since his overheads are minimum he does good deals. Also, when i spoke to him he was pretty excited about my ideas. I think he will be taking a few pics for his wall so hopefully that means that little bit extra care will be taken Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yep, unbelievable prices, but I'd want to hear feedback 3 months after the job is done before committing any hard-earned! To date I have never seen a cheap or even reasonably priced respray turn out in any decent quality. Only those that charge the upper end prices seem to turn out good results IME. I also factor in the person giving response to their recommendation, some members I've met have posted up here saying how happy they are with the work and how perfect it is (and even recommended the place(s) to others), yet in real life the paintwork has been absolutely shocking. He sprayed the front end of my MR2 and the rear bumper along with a repair on the wing. The work was absolutely top notch, honestly couldn't see any missmatch whatsoever and the paint is still spot on. Thats the main reason i'm going back to this guy. He just has an ora of oldskool about him, if that makes any sense. The reason i've had to wait so long is because he has been booked solid, during this economic climate lol. Older cars that are built like mechano sets are easy to paint, modern higher priced cars like the Supra (in their day) with so many tightly fitting trim and panels are far more tricky and (primarily) time consuming.
