No oil !!

Don't do that, as it is incorrect and you can get an artificially high reading.

 

Oil should be checked at operating temperatures, a few minutes after switching off. You should check oil levels weekly.

 

yes you are of course correct I should have said after a few mins after turning off, I assumed Supra guy had checked his oil level the instant he saw his light come on, sorry :blush:

I've never heard of leaking stem seals causing any significant oil loss, usually people say the oil level 'hasnt moved'.

check the main oil sump seal....perhaps the oil filter

 

you sure when they serviced your car they actually changed the oil...?

In my Supra instruction manual it says that the car can use up to 1 litre of oil to 1000km. If it consumes more oil than that it should be taken to the nearest Toyota repair shop. Why does the book say this, to pretend that shot valve seals are OK?
Every car manual I've ever seen has said the same, because it is acceptable for any engine to use a small amount of oil.
