alaing Posted February 23, 2009 Share Posted February 23, 2009 Following on from a thread about my missfire http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=177311&highlight=essex I have taken a look at the voltage at the coilpack clips and they seem a little strange. The black and orange wire (which i though was and earth) shows 12v when earthed. the other wires showed anywhere between 5v-12v when tested. Now this was while the engine was running. It works on a switched earth system, theres always 12v at the coil but the ECU opens a path to earth to fire the plug. Swampy442 Posted February 23, 2009 Share Posted February 23, 2009 (edited) Cant really tell on the basis of a voltage check, all that proves is theres 12v getting to the coils. Almost all cases of missfire under boost are coil pack related, and the only cure is new coils or new connectors. Also I believe plugs with an X at the end are platinums? They should never be gapped as it dmages the plug coating. Just using BKR7 coppers gaped to .7 or .8 is fine and alot cheaper. Have you tried a compression test on the off chance? Have you reset the ECU, gone for a 'spirited' drive then checked again for error codes? alaing Posted February 24, 2009 Author Share Posted February 24, 2009 yeh tried compression test all looks good, getting good compression. Ecu has been reset. The problem it not even under boost (not got that far yet) its just on idle! So cant drive it because it doesnt have the power. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
miko_supra Posted February 24, 2009 Share Posted February 24, 2009 Take your coil packs out and clean them up. Have a look for cracks on the stem, as the spark could be shorting out onto the block through the cracks. Try filling the cracks if you find any with super glue or araldite.
