Redline Ten Of The Best 3 - Announcement - General Release
It's our pleasure once again to invite you all to Redline Ten of the Best 3. The event takes place again at Elvington aerodrome on Sunday the 1st August 2004. Redline magazine and Japanese Performance will be supporting the event and once again TOTB will be televised in September 04.
We are pleased to announce that a few new clubs have come forward for 2004, in addition to those who took part in Redline TOTB2. This means that the event entry list is already full provisionally, and also that a few new marques will be competing alongside existing entries. (MR2, Fiat Coupe Club, plus Skylineowners.com).
We still have limited room available for suitable cars that are not part of an existing club/group/team. Performance car Tuners are also able to apply to compete, either as part of one of the Team entries or as individuals, subject to approval and spaces.
The competitor entry forms with details are available from this week on the Official Redline TOTB website.
www.totb.co.uk
Spectator ticket prices are held at last years price and are available in advance at £15, or alternatively can be purchased on the gate on the day from 9am onwards at £20 per person. There are no limits on spectating numbers on the day. All event and Ticket details for spectators are on www.totb.co.uk for online or phone orders for advance tickets.
This year we are pleased to announce a Trade display area, and a new Redline Results and Information Centre. All competitors, team reps and spectators will be able to get up-to date results and leaderboards throughout the day via the Information centre, as well as a programme of the day. A top speed viewing area will be available again, accessed by a site bus, as well as an expanded and improved pitlane viewing area. Stunt/demo driving displays will be run during any event breaks and at the end of qualifying at 3.30pm.
The event format remains basically the same, albeit with some minor tweaks to the Handling and Drag shootout finals from 4pm onwards. Details of these minor changes will go to all clubs/teams as a separate email. We are looking to involve the fwd and rwd cars in the drag shootout finals again as per totb1.
The Overall Redline TOTB3 Champion Award will still be based on total points scored from all 3 events (1/4m drag, handling, Top speed) plus any bonus points gained from the shootout finals. Rocket Ronnie will be back looking for a Hat trick of wins!
The Closing date for all competitor entries is 1st July 2004. There will be a further 2-week period for any last minute team changes or for reserves to take any places that become available. Please note no refunds will be made after 1st July. No changes will be made to any team sheets after 14th July 2004 when the entry lists become final.
Any Traders interested in a display area or Event sponsorship should contact
shinshelwood@btinternet.com
Any event/team or entry enquiries contact
enquiries@trackdayplus.com
Thanks Gaz.
Just to clarify from the other posts that are floating around, the entry closure date is 1st July so we need to choose cars by end of May at the latest.
Entry is going to be based on actual performance either last year or this year. We will need to see 1/4 mile times from a recognised event such as Elvington, TSC, Pod, Crail, Avon or other decent 1/4 mile setup.
We have 10 spaces available to us. Traders/Tuners cars will be included in that 10 if they can prove a decent time.
Current Entry list stands at
1. CRD Supra (10.9 Crail ) (assuming they run for mkivsupra.net)
2. Paul Whiffin (12.0 Pod last year)
3. Christian Doran (??.? from last year)
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
reserves
none at present
So as you can see theres spaces to fill and I need to see times etc.
Im also not sure I can make the event this year so I need somebody to sort out all the organisation on this.
JB
I'm up for this if my 12.98 at 10ot2 gets me in, otherwise I'll try and qualify post-single turbo upgrade :)
-Ian
Its the 12.8 and 12.9 area thats going to be a problem, theres a few cars in that area and when you think there going to be Dude, Leon, Terry, BabyV, Justins old car, Minkey Mark all with big plans for singles or twins (and I have missed a load of cars there Im sure) then the stock based sequentials may be limited. BUT, its all based on proven times, if the big cars dont prove their times then its going to be interesting to say the least.

Thing is will these cars be ready this year? Will the lads with singles have them fitted and working in time? I hope so, as it would be just as good to watch :)

This year, that isn't going to be an issue for me :flame Dev

Proven times by end of May is the cut off, I need to know the cars are capable and if they are going to be big power anyway a quick 12s run shouldnt be too tricky..
JB
I have everything to fit my single now, hopefully fit it in a couple of weeks, not sure how much HP i can squeeze out the current fuel setup and intercooler though.
I have already given my mapper the heads up as well.
Should be interesting to see the times from TSC next weekend, that will set the benchmark for the stock twin based cars.
JB
My car should be up and running in April even though a few bits are still stateside , aside from the POD are there any other suitable events to run at on a decent surface ???

i wont be in it this time. but best of luck to everyone taking part. should be good this year, i have read it in the tea leaves.
nice to see lots of people with plans.
what about adam w in his mk3
or any news of registerd nutter? what about that f1 guy with t88 supra seems he has an all round car and knows how to drive.
have fun
TOTB3 spectating tickets are now on sale. www.totb.co.uk
JB, is the deadline still end of may? :(
Indeed it is, there may be a few days grace in it but the cut off is so that we can get all the entry forms in by 1st July which gives people the whole of June to get their entry forms in.
I know a lot of people are going single and that takes time but if we dont get the entry forms in we lose our places.
JB
Anyone who wants to get a practice run or 10 in at Elvington can do the top speed and 1/4 stuff on the 16th of May.
Just 15 days to go before qualification for TOTB3 is supposed to close. I need to see proven times this year so that we can field a full team. I know a few of you are planning on running at Rotorstock on 31st May so Im hoping some good times come from that, everybody else needs to get themselves along to an event asap if they want to try and get a qualifying time.

looks like chris b has a good time to add, at elvington today he did a 12.56@116mph was consistent all day with his times.
also im sure i seen a trap speed of 119 mph but will have to check camcorder footage.
a nice turn out of supras and skylines

how about late entries like the middle of june ??
Registration forms have to be in by the end of June which is why I have the end of May cut off. If we dont get the forms in we lose the places, they are seriously over subscribed this time. I can run a few days in to June but the middle will be tricky, whats your best time at the moment?

The supra is over 900bhp and proved itself with a new record for Elvington, running 201mph at 1.25miles from a standing start! Meanwhile the Calder Scooby ran a sub 11s 1/4m, to become the fastest Subaru 1/4m in the UK so far at 10.98s on road legal tyres. Both cars are sure to be contenders at TOTB3.

This ones going to be good this year. Nice to see Kevin H is involved as he wanted to do this last year but other cars stopped this from happening, even though they never ran. Last years TOTB was very dissapointing :(
Lets hope this year is better with all the singles now. I would have liked to see Michel's name on the list, very soon the T78 will be finished and that will fly :)
Even if he gets a good time in June is there noway he can run?
Paul
copied from my post in chit chat
based on Minkey Marks 1/4 list the current entrants for TOTB3 would be...
9.953 @ 144.18 mph CRD supra
10.927 @ 132.48 mph Dude
11.61 @ 132 mph Leon G
11.84 @ 131 mph Paul W
12.36 @ 107 mph Christian Doran
12.53 @ 114 mph MONKEYmark
12.56 @ 116 mph Chris B
12.79 @ 114 mph Matt Harwood
12.81 @ 110 mph Kevin Huntley
12.83 @ ??? mph Geezabloke
Monkey Mark, Chris B, Geezabloke, Kevin or Matt Harwood may be willing to give up their time if a faster single turns up but thats going to be their choice, they had the times by the qualifying cut off but I know other cars are capable and may just turn up some quick times. If they do then we need to see them before 20th June to make sure we get the required entry forms in. If any of those people are 100% sure they will want to race then let me know and I will send you the entrance form.
CRD, Dude, Leon, Paul W and Christian Doran are all definite entries so I will sort out their entry forms and mail them across to them.
It will be a great event this year, I even bought a new gazeebo to celebrate :)

Will there be enough seats for us Northern folk under the gazeebo? lol :D
Kevin should be putting some good times in when the cars running perfect, i know 11s are in his reach so thats one time that will be down from the 12.8 on the list.
I also think ChrisB should definetly run, stock car apart from boost increase and intercooler and a 12.5, letting everyone know UK cars rule :p
Paul
Theres currently 4 'club' seats (cos thats about all I can fit in a mkiv with a gazeebo as well), so its first come first served on the seats :) . Naturally you can bring your northern seats along and sit under the gazeebo as well, we dont discriminate against anybody (except CJ, but he's from Wales) just dont be surprised if all the southerners sidle up to your chairs while you nip off for a wee.
I was pleased to see Kevin put in a qualifying time even with the car running badly, Im sure it will run very well when its done.

and i will have plenty of tea and coffee for supra owners. will carry a spare auto gearbox and TC and a few tools if anyone needs.
does anyone know if BFG` drag radials ok to use. they supposed to have a dot marking for usa for street use, dont know about uk though. the skyline lads seem to use dunlop formula r`s they look like a cut slick.
good luck to anyone taking part

Hi Mark, the BFG are DOT approved and are fine for the event, having checked with the organisers.
I think the Micky Thompsons Street ET's might be your best bet though for good times.
That surface is really abbrasive and a couple of runs will destroy Drag radials.

Any places available, or anyone dropping out of this? I would run if theres any spare places, on 17s i reckon 12.8 or under could be achieved. And round the twistys, mmmmmm :p
Theres currently a reserve list run by Chris Mann and currently theres no drop outs so no spare places at all. At this point I would suggest there wont be any spare spaces, even if Chris loses a whole bunch of cars he has spares to fill the gaps.
If anything comes up I will let you know. Justin was on the reserve list but due to his accident on Saturday wont be able to make it even if his name came up.
All the other competitors are ready, Leon and Dude did some test runs this weekend, Matt H and Ian Chisholm have their singles up and running and were at JAE today and the others are all ready to run.

We rocked :) Coming soon in a Skyline's rear view mirror near you.
I didn't clear up my misfire despite masses of help from Matt H and Terry :( But I could race at 0.9 bar boost and with a mangled gearchange into second I still managed 171mph on the top speed. Plenty more to come then :sly: And I did the handling circuit free of demons, and loved it :)
Matt did well until his clutch smoked. Dude dropped his car on Jake's hand
Hi to everyone I met during the day :)

Pics of cars and (some of) the results sheets will be here (http://www.megaboost.co.uk/supra/mine/totb3/) in a moment or two :)
Congrats to Dude and well done to everyone else who ran, I think the Supra came away with a lot more respect this year :D
A great day out, very enjoyable. Some impressive cars, though it is a shame some of the big power cars broke, as it would have made it even better.
Congratulations to all the Supras, especially dude! Definately the best year for the Supras so far.
Oh, question for Big Roy: Do you have a speed camera detector?
BTW, did anyone else think the trap speeds were off, especially at the start?

Yeah, last year I was getting 112-118mph speeds with slower times. 13.12 @ 104mph doesn't sound right to me :)
How many people were there btw?!
-Ian
I was there for an hour or two.
This piccie here is Dude just about to beat the CRD supra.
He's laid on some dry ice in a 70's Top of the Pops style, and in the foreground a skinhead is breaking wind and parting his cheeks to amplify the sound.

I'll have to type more in the morning, just wanted to say it was nice meeting everyone, and congrats to Dude!
I thought the attendance yet again was poor, 4 or 5 Supras running....terrible! Sorry like but after being told there was no spaces left and that there was a reserve list then to turn up today and only half the Supras were there, felt like i could have ran! Maybe next year let people race who will actually race, none of these no show people eh? I might have gotten high 12s today if i raced, not as good as some Supras but at least there would be more of them!
Anyway rant over, more pleasant comments tomorrow lol
Paul :p ;)
Chris B, Matt Harwood, Christian Doran, Dude, the CRD boys, Kev Huntley, and me all ran, so that's seven. Leon's threw a rod - hardly his decision to "not run" :( Paul Whiffin didn't show up but as Paul has attended the first two events and does many track days and Pod I'm sure there must have been a very good reason for his no-show and he'll be gutted about it.

I'm a bit pissed off actually, spent all week preparing my car, was working on it 9 till 10.30pm Saturday, went and hired a trailer, fitted a tow bar to my Forester, loaded it all up ready to go in the morning. Woke up in the middle of the night spewing my guts up, sweating like a bitch and feeling like the world was about to end so couldn't go, farked off as I feel perfectly fine now, must have been a dodgy burger Friday night from Tubby Turks!

And If you watched it going up the strip you could see when the NO2 kicked in.:)

Jake , i think the 10.85 was run literally just after qualifying finished , i knew that a 11.01 would get me in the shootout so didnt do loads of runs , i dont do times , i just like to race heads up same as any real racer but if you guys wanna see a 2nd car run 9's then i'll oblige as soon as i can but only if jake and the rest of the team turn up !!!!

Who cares , i dont , if id run a 10.83 i might be miffed but like i said i dont do times , real racing is heads up car vs car and first one to the end wins , now thats real drag racing , its no good running a 9.99 and sitting on the line for 2 secs that way an 11 sec will beat you every time , if id been fussed about running times youd have seen a lot more than 3 runs trust me , TBH the organisation was shite , if id known my car ran that piss poor top speed id have borrowed some taller tyres and put in a decent speed rather than sit on the limiter for 400 mtrs but it took 2 hrs to get the ticket and no leader board sucks (the LED board was shite ) .

have updated times in drag section.
what apout the trap speeds been down? think a propper drag strip is what i prefer its better for all. evlington want to put some of there profit back into the track, maybe seating and propper overhead score boards like pod. maybe prep the startline area with decent launching.
bet the official line is they only just broke even
i think the racers should have fre entry as they putting the cars on the line. no cars no event. they should look after the drivers.
who wants a crappy £250 voucher from a mickey mouse turbo company
just pay the prize money out in lager vouchers or bananas in dudes case :innocent:

Dude:flame Dev just think you could have a nice blue looking turbo :)
it is a bit pointless giving you a voucher for a turbo when you already got one.
out of intrest anyone know how much mickey mouse turbos cost.
we want money or a nos kit
it would have been better if you could have spent it on spaller items so you dont have to pay out any money.
whens the next big jap event where everyone going to.
Mark,
Do you know how many people were there on Sunday? They must've made a mint at £20 a head.
Dude,
Did you collect your timing slip for the 10.85?
They said that morning that they were expecting 3000+ people. With that + the commpetitor fees, it is easily over 100k for the day. I hope it goes to better facilities next year.

..... and don't forget the fees that vendors would have had to pay to be there selling stuff

Thats shocking! £250 voucher for a turbo, they should give that prize to the slowest car on the day, they need it more than the winners!!! Who oviously have good enough turbo's to start with......mmmmmm :conf: :twak:

suppose there is the free dvd of the event all you had to do was ask for a free dvd coupon, cant see it changing. its like when sky or ntl get loads of customers they stick price up.
i would have thought with that many people they should have a lot more toilets. they could make it a full time site. maybe have the event 2 times a year or something of the same sort of thing. we waited for so long for it to come round and was a big let down.

Hey - it turns out our additional injectors weren't firing.
I think we were probably running a bit lean at 1.5bar on 550cc injectors :(

Is that the VVTi SC/turbo project of yours?
yes, it's a 2jz-vvti engine with a greddy T88 and a mercedes supercharger. Removed the stock suspension and changed to solid rear axle (hilux). Staged fuel, AEM, and some other goodies. Our first aim is 12 secs, second aim is 10 secs, then I'm happy. The last goal is under 9, could be very well possible if we add some NOS. The car is completely stripped and for that we will also change most body parts to carbon.
