Yes thingy is the technical term! (part number: th1ngy)

My soop is jspec my head unit is uk spec they have different connectors and if I dont get a head unit working sharpish then I will have to listen to my Mrs rabbit on about some bollox or another for another 4hour drive. Nice if your Mrs sounds like angeline jolie but mine sounds like Dom Joly.

Is there just a Jap > UK connector and if so can ya flog me one

Else do you know where I can get one (or have one made)

Ta muchly

Wiring sorted but now my xplod 1din is installed - there is only about half that space again left.

I thought 2 din was 2x1din, am I wrong or is the space in my j-spec 1 and a half din?

Am I going to need to cut/file another half a din to get a graphic equalizer / din pocket to fit?

I surely cant be the only one to experience this as I presume all the j-specs are pretty much the same (even if the UK ones arent).

Any ideas/opinions appreciated

Unless someones compressed your dahsboard, it should be double din.

You should be able to get a din pocket from Halfords or similar.

Assuming you've fitted the radio in the stock mounting brackets, trust me, it'll fit.

thanks for the reply matt

Im going to take pictures tonight as i may have done something wrong (although i dont see what)

Put it this way - I CANNOT put two head units in.

After putting in my sony I have about half the height of the sony left in space

As I say I will take pics that may make it easier to see what, if anything I have done wrong.

Thanks again

We've done two head units a few times... I'm intrigued

Have you used the stock radio brackets?

Lewis

Hi matt,

I have but it wouldnt matter either way. the hole in the dash just isnt big enough, the digicam is charging (or will be in the next few minutes) so as soon as I can I will take pics.

Ah!!

It looks like you've used the cage that comes with the headunit yes?

The soop doesn't use this and uses screws to hold the headunit in. The surround that you have added shouldn't be required. My Kennie didn't use it and it then allows the extra Din slot.

Look at the attched.

Ben..

Yep, Ben's correct, the unit itself should be screwed to the Toyota brackets, and the front facia surround should be removed. The whole unit should end up sitting behind the dash panel, yours is 'traditionally' fitted trough the dash.

You need to remove the radio, remove the cage, remove the side clips on the side of the radio, (if it has any), and look at the side of the radio. You'll see there are holes with N and T nest to them, T meaning Toyota fixing holes.

Hope that helps.

It helps having them black to match the dash, I would of got something else if they only did the bright silver and special edition white ones.

The black makes them a little less obvious to petty scum car thiefs.

Right... Emin was up today (will make a post on my site about it with pics etc). He got the stereo installed while the dash was off.

Only problem is - I have sound through tweeters only...... nice for hip-hop I am sure you will agree, good old Dr. Dre rapping away like a f'king chipmunk.

Well we tried to figure out what the kin'ell was going on but got nowhere. It looks as though a nice set of floor mounted (footwell) tweeters were installed (nice plan for the future there - Emin and I had a nice idea to do with some other toys to fit there) but they were taken out by el previouso jap owno.

The stock tweeters still work but not a single one of the other speakers (two pioneers in the rear, 2 tweeters in the rear and a couple of others in the front doors). Then we found my amp under the co-pilot seat thought maybe they were wired to that but they were duff, nope swapped it with Emins and still no luck.

Emin may be able to give you a more detailed description of what was found as he did most of the finding and I will try to take some pics of it all.

Any ideas?

Where/how/what plugs have you connected the stereo to?

Lewis
02-03-04, 13:07
Originally had all the standard fitments so went to halfrauds and bought the suggested autoleads(??) thingy fitment so that my two standard oblong plugs would plug stright into the adapter and then into the two ends on the car.

(not I still have the two connectors tucked down the side the same as everyone else so I havent used those).

I am not helping much am i?

I will try and get some more pics when it gets back from unicar today.

If you haven't used the two plugs down by the passenger side, that'll be the problem. What I'm not sure about, is how you've actually connected it up to the speakers...

Lewis
03-03-04, 10:20
Emin hasn't used those plugs either in his supra though???

I will take pics when I get home tonight to clear up any confusion.

Ta again matt

You do like doing things that hard way! :innocent:

Unless you're running external amps, all you need to do is get a PC2-17-4 from your local car audio shop or Halfords etc, disconnect the two plugs at the top of the tunnel on the passenger side, connect these to the PC2 lead and the other end to the new radio...

The tweeters aren't powered by the stock amp, which is why thats all you have working...

Lewis

ello again matt,

I plan to go and buy the suggested lead (if this isnt what I already have - I bought the one you suggested in another thread (i think it was you - will check and see what it was I bought)

I have taken some pics tonight and any help would be appreciated.

Just checked the box and its a PC2-17-4 I picked up from halfrauds

Matt Harwood
03-03-04, 22:37
Hmmm, well, the lead is correct, the Toyota plugs you've pictured look like the correct ones... It should work! :conf:

Did the original stereo work through the rest of the speakers?

Lewis
03-03-04, 22:51
didn't have one in - I guess I will just pay the local audio geezar to re-wire it all (fucking £120 though) scuse my language.

You need to go mobile Matt lol your too far away for all of us lazy bugger sthat have money but cant be arsed to drive all the way down.

So long as I can be comfortable that I got the right kit and that I did it right (which everyone seems to say I have) then I dont mind paying to get it sorted.

Anything to not have to listen to snoop doggy dogg through only stock tweeters - I nearly kept going straight on roundabouts to save me from the hellish torture - but compare that to listening to my missus for an hour in the car and there is no comparison - keep hitting those tinny high notes snoop!

Below is a diagram I did when sorting mine out. Basically the leads from the right side of the dash that plug into 2 and 3 go into the ISO adapter and that's it. The link may also help.

Mmmmm, images of Mr Nice sneaking around the docks removing/cutting wires to speakers as the cars come in. A couple of weeks later "Hi, I can help with that".

Surely not ;) ;)

Hi matt,

Stock tweeters front dash
Kenwood gold polypropelene jobbies front doors
Panasonic 4" & tweeters in the rear

So yeah there are speakers, I am hoping to get it done this weekend if I can (doubt it though)

 Are you saying someones gone to the trouble of making up an adaptor to reduce the size of the rear speakers??? :conf: :looney:

At least there's speakers in there... I'm guessing the previous owner used to have external amps fitted, and has probably rewired the speakers directly. - Difficult to say without looking, but that's the only logic conclusion I can make...:conf:

Lewis
04-03-04, 22:24
Yeah thanks matt,

I appreciate all the pissing around and suggestions you have made, when I eventually do get it sorted I will post what it was (out of interest).

F'ing japs - if he left all his speakers in he could have left his bloody amps in, they are probably sat in his civic now - little sh1t!

Just seen this thread, this is a very wierd one must say!!

by each kick panel there was a small whole cut out which looked like it was for more tweeters, there was a 2core wire going to it which was taped around each terminal although when measuring it for any AC via the stereo there wass nothing, nor DC just in case it was power. Couldnt see where it went to as it run up by those wires to the left of the glove box. How it was run in i dont know!

The plug the was brought from halfords was fitted correctly and all matched up for each speaker output. The bit that we dont have connected is there is 2 white plugs as you are looking at the front bottom left which has a few connections going to it. What are those to plugs for? My stereo works and these are not used, is it for a GZ option like heated seats ect..??

Also when i took my power amp out underneith the passenger seat, my stereo still worked while the amp was unpluged, is that right???

From the adapter that plugs into the car stereo where does the speaker wires go to, should it go to the amp, or to all the speakers, or does it go somewhere first??

speakers were connected :innocent:

Matt Harwood

On a standard Supra, (in fact, quite a lot of Toyota's), there is a small white plug in the back of the stereo, this goes directly down the passenger side into the trunking that goes down the passenger tunnell and under the seat to the amplifier. The amplifier then sends it's output, back up the same trunking, into the two plugs at the top of the tunnel. These are the ones you need to remove to plug in the Toyota adaptor as these ones supply the speakers directly.
It's all a bit of a strange production afterthought really... So much for weight saving! :innocent:

Lewis

not yet mate, waiting to get a spare day at work so I can get it down to apollo auto electrics - they seem to be the peeps to sort it one way or another.

I did want to speak to you at some point though, could you pm me your mobile number or give me a ring tonight.

Cheers mate
