DARETT
Is anyone actually running a dry sump system on here? And is there any kits that are sold for the Supra? Cosworth have designed one for the Impreza, for which it is a great help, especially for track days. Just wondering if anyone has made it for the Supra's as yet, and would it be as beneficial on the 2JZ?....
Chris Wilson
I have yet to see a UK stock based Supra MKIV that gave enough lateral or longitudinal grip to have oil surge issues, so, assuming you don't want a dry sump set up with a small flywheel diameter to lower the engine in the chassis I don't see the need to invest a couple of grand plus having a bespoke dry sump set up done. It would be fairly easy to dry sump one though, if you really wanted to pursue this.
SteveR
Chris, should I be worried about the banking at Rockingham?

SteveR
I meant around the banked bit!
Digsy
Chris, should I be worried about the banking at Rockingham? Banked corners will make it easier for the oil to stay in the bottom of yout pan, not harder
Chris Wilson
Only by trying to stay on it....

It's been an issue on track for the Impreza's etc, just wasn't sure with the Supra. Thanks!
lucasl
Theres a company called http://www.twinsturbo.com that make a dry sump kit, they do a 4 stage and a 5 stage kit. Dont know how good they are tho. http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/9039/drysump.jpg
Chris Wilson
*4* scavenge stages?? A lot over the top I'd have said. Also the sump depth seems excessive given one of the reasons for a dry sump is get the enginne lower in the chassis. Looks neatly executed though. CarlT67
Does a dry sump system, simply cycle the oil through an external oil pump and use an oil tank for the storage...? I am unaware of how they work

pedrosixfour
The pump drive belt, should there not be some kind of tensioner on it?
Chris Wilson
No, they nearly always run without a secondary tensioning pulley. It's really race engine stuff where the times between full rebuilds is measured in hours or 1000 KMS or so, the belt would be renewed very regularly and manual tensioning done at the same very short intervals, between rebuilds.
