Hi,
I recently replaced my speakers.
The standard fronts were 4", but I fitted 6.25" speakers to the door cards, which work quite well.
You can fit 6.25" speakers directly into the rear speaker brackets with no modification.

10cm in the front and 17cm in the rear. Like Paul says when changing the fronts you can take out the plastic housing for the 10cm speakers and mount the 17cm direct the door cards.
Which I'm going to be attempting tomorrow! So any tips appreciated. :D
As for buying the speakers don't think any one will get any more recommendations that Matt Harwood on this site.

Yeah, get some dynamat for the interior of your doors!
Be carefull when trimming the door cards and drilling the holes. If you mess it up your fooked!!

Umm, little worried now. I'll have to wait and see how confident I feel I can do a good job before attempting anything that's irreversible.
How long did it take you would you say?

dont forget if you have a GZ then you get some plastic housing box in the rear speakers that restricts your depth of speaker unless you want to take out the rear quarter panels (pain of a job) and then remove the box's.

You need to use the new speaker cover that comes with the replacement speakers. I would have started it today but the courier didn't turn up!
I did however remove the rears in preparation which was a joke as they were glued in really well and gave myself some lovely cuts as it suddenly shot out into my fingers!
I will take some pictures but if anyone has any pictures and advice I'd like to know before I get started.

I'd rather take my time and get it perfect so I wont rush it probably just take a look and access the situation.
Did you just screw the speakers with very small screws through the door card or did it require any cutting etc? I'm sure it will all become much clearer once I attempt this. I hope so anyway!
My rear speaker was ripped badly no wonder it sounded so terrible with any bass:eek:

A bit of cutting was required. I used self tappers though. So they just went straight through the doors.
It's pretty easy matey. If I can do it then anyone can!!

I hope your right! Mine have got a seperate cross over and tweeters which is going to make the installing them even more of a pain but I shall post up a thread with pictures when its all done.
Do you think the dynamat makes much difference and how much did you use?
Sorry to dig up an old thread (:innocent: ), but did anyone ever take any pictures of the fitting of 6.5" front speakers (as mentioned earlier in this thread)? I'm thinking of doing the 6.5" Focal front and rear thing, but I'd like to see exactly how the fronts are done?
Cheers, J
ive got JBL 6.5 in ther rear pannels of mine but the cover does not hide all of the fixings the original cover does. I recon im gonn re trim the original cover with some JBL fabric. That should look ok!
Okay ... Mission "Focal Fitting" has begun! Just took the doorcard off to have an initial look so I can ask some questions before tomorrow! Firstly, the dude in Japan has obviously been inside the door before me, as I found these little Alpine guys in there: -
BEFORE (http://www.bouncingbullet.com/before.jpg)
Anyway. I've not quite managed to gather from this thread whether the speakers need to be mounted on the 'back' of the doorcard or the front. Hopefully this diagram will explain what I mean?
Where do I Screw! (http://www.bouncingbullet.com/screws.jpg) :innocent:
Clearly there is not enough depth for the speakers to fit straight in with that plastic 'thingymabob' in there (No Room!! (http://www.bouncingbullet.com/focal1.jpg)). As far as I can tell the plasic thing serves no real function, other than to hold the speaker and feed the wires to it? So I guess I ditch the plastic bit all together and just splice the speaker wire directly into the connector that would normally go into the bottom of the plastic bit?
Sorry for all the questions ... just want to make sure I don't screw anything up. I will take more pics tomorrow, so hopefully those can help anyone else in the future :p
Cheers, J
