hi there iam thinking about buying a single turbo(prob auto)

i would just like to know are they reliable like twin turbos for everyday running?

or are they just to expensive to run?

i have a classic supra (t88 1jz) for the weekends

i was thinking about a t61 or something like that

The answers on here will range from "I've never had a problem in 5 years" to "feckin pile of crap, I wish I'd never bought it" :)

If done properly there's no reason why a small single should be that unreliable, the lifetime of the autobox would be my first "reliability failure" issue.

Normal expense costs will just be extra fuel/tyres/service costs, but there's always that chance it turns into a right 'ole money pit :D

Those people who have problems with single turbos are often those that just went for a single turbo without considering all the rest that comes with it (ecu, fuelling, cooling, ignition, ...).

I think if set up properly (without looking too much on the $$$ (you can have a turbo kit for 4000 £ but when going the complete route, 10k £ is more realistic)), a single turbo Supe can be more reliable than a BPU Supe.

I'm reminded of a post I think Jake made some time ago, when talking about single turbo supras. I think it went something like this:

- cheap

- reliable

- fast

...pick 2.

 - smart.

For a daily driver, i'd go for a quick spooling turbo for that added low-mid torque....something like a T61DBB 0.68AR ;)
