View Full Version : PC in car
*If* I was do something like this, does anyone know how the whole output from the soundcard to car speakers bit would work? i.e. presumably it'd need some kind of external amp? Also would need to be the right ohmage etc??
If you can get a soundcard which has got a fixed line out instead of variable line out, it should work fine.
I know that Sony make a bolt on that comes as a bus connector and two phonos, so that when you press the source button and go to that input you can pump in whatever you want.
In theory you shouldnt have any probs.
I was thinking laptop and external sound card... Basically I'm trying to do it on the cheap but with a more unique angle too...
You can run from soundcard to amp assuming you have one... or if your head unit has an aux in this will be fine.
I use the cd changer input on a kenwood mp3 head unit.
My PC is out of the car for now .... should be back with touchscreen vga screen if I can be arsed....
MP3car.com is good for info...

Great guys, thanks. I was trying to get away from having a head unit- running out of places to install it  Was planning on having a lappy in there and using that screen. Some super funky sound cards have remote control etc which would make it do-able, I'm just not 100% on the kinda middle compatibility bit.
I'll check that link

I am still planning a PC in the car when funds allow, I think ive posted on the thread talked about.
If you do decide to get a head unit get one wit an aux input (my kenwood 838w has one) ideal for running from the headphone socket of a lappy, I use it all the time to watch DVD's while im waiting in the car.
