Well as some of you know my supra has been off the road since third week in August due to having troubles with Hybrid turbo's.
My supra has been at ToyotaGT for over month and half now while they were being refurbished and while being fully stripped done all the turbo side over the past week been thinking very hard to put all back hybrid's but finally come to the decision of going single & that's now what im doing :eyebrows:

Placed order Tuesday with Joe at PHR over the states & ordered my PHR Street Single kit with cast manifold & GT60 polished turbo with Tial 44mm waste gate / PRH chrome turbo blanket & new HKS SSQ bov complete with ali flange to be welded on hard pipe / RMM (Rod Millen Motorsports) 3" stainless double de-cat downpipe All should be with me within next week.

Brought PE 650 high impedance injectors courtesy of Jake thanks very much.

Mocal 230mm 19 row transmission oil cooler with all the special fittings.

Braided line with areoquip fittings for breather pipe from cam cover to air intake.

I am having all work carried out at ToyotaGT who has been looking after my car while it's been sick & now looking very much to be all ready by end of month ready for Ryan G to map it at surrey rolling road.

Going to be very similar set up to Wez's Supra

:flame: !!! PIC OF FINISHED INSTALL & all work carried out by James@ToyotaGt !!! :flame:

All I can say is that I highly rate ToyotaGT for there workmanship 10/10 for looking after my car & doing a great install + returning my supra back to me spotless well done guys & if any one wanting a great job done to there supra give them a shout you won't be dissapointed !!!

01. What's the best way for refitting breather sytem ???

02.What's best spark plugs to go back in ???

03.Is oil cooler in pic above good enough for cooling auto box & where's best place to mount it ???

04.Is it good to wrap down pipe from turbo ???

Going to be few more question probally asking but will list them when i think what else need to know.

Are you going with a standard stall TC Lui? If so the one fluidyne is OK but personally I'd go with 2 that size.

Breather system should be routed back into turbo intake pipework as per standard

Sparks go with NGK Iridiums heat grade 7 should still suffice for a small single - BKR7EIX.

Personally I would wrap the downpipe only if the pipework isn't already heat coated.

Cheers,

Brian.

Keeping it standard stall

With breather back into turbo intake pipework should i ran through via a catch tank ???

The downpipe is heat coated so should i'll still wrap it ???

Congrats Lui, looking forward to the build.

01. What's the best way for refitting breather sytem ???

Mine is open but I wouldnt advise on what I have, back into the intake via a catch with decent sized piping should be better.

02.What's best spark plugs to go back in ???

I use BKR8EIX on mine without any issue.

03.Is oil cooler in pic above good enough for cooling auto box & where's best place to mount it ???

Not sure I like the design of that, looks like it could cause a restriction in flow, surely a regular tube and fin type would be better.

04.Is it good to wrap down pipe from turbo ???

I would yes, the only reason I dont have it on mine at the moment is I havent got round to redoing it, its sitting here waiting to go on.

Nice one Lui, the car had pretty much everything needed for a single conversion anyway so it seems like a natural move after the hybrids went pop.

Good luck with it :)

Car will be ready by end of this month but as for Suprapod as said before soooooooooooooo gutted will not be able to make this one as going on pre-booked long weekend suprise holiday to Spain same weekend & not worth the aftermath hassle on trying to get out of this one.

But next year this mistake will never happen100% for sure.

as Wez has stated the Fluidyne cooler is not going to be man enough on its own, IMO they really are a waste of time and i cant understand why they have become so popular, are you running it with the stock radiator connection or on its own ?

Just got back from weekend away only to find missed out on big parcel trying to be delivered to me on Saturday.
Know what I'm doing first thing tomorrow straight down to collection depot to collect feels like nice present from USA hopefully, now felling like Christmas come early hopefully it's my PHR Street Single Kit & few other bits & pieces touch wood will be adding good few pic's of kit up tomorrow night :eyebrows:

Glad to hear the bits have arrived.

I would wrap your down pipe, even if it is heat coated, it is going to get very hot and will radiate heat to everything in that area, so the extra insulation will help keep the heat in until the pipe goes under the car.

With my new PHR Street Single kit there is no more intercooler hardpipe going through wing section it directs straight down via Turbo to intercooler & other side is direct up to intake.
Question is where's best place to mount new BOV turbo side of intercooler pipe or intake side ???
Or does it not matter which side just where it fit's & just put it in best location as i have now to weld flange onto intercooler hard pipe somewhere to fit it.

Well James started putting my PHR Street Single kit together this week & I pop down to see how all going today & yesterday & so far James is doing a great Job.
Work done so far Manifold fitted with EGT sensor tapped & fitted to it / Turbo & turbo jacket / downpipe / wastegate / screamer pipe / air filter / double de-cat & all lines & feeds fitted :eyebrows::eyebrows::eyebrows:

Mocal oil cooler for auto box cooling mounted & all plumbing work to it done.

James has also taken out my Blitz LM V Spec Intercooler to flush & clean out + all hard pipes cleaned / Having HKS ssqv bov welded to hard pipe + modification from turbo to intercooler pipe welded & should be back & fitted tomorrow.

Old 550 injectors + resistor pack out & All PE 650 injectors fitted.

Base mapped installed by Ryan G & waiting to be fully mapped which all booked in for 10th Nov with Ryan G @ SRR

Things to be done now is re-fit intercooler & hard pipes / tidy up cables / sort out breather filters / drain down on old oil & new filter + Silokene Pro oil in & few other small bits & bobs & James hoping to do all test & possibly fire it up tomorrow / Saturday :):):)

James has also taken loads of pic's of install but did not have time or equipment to transfer today but loads of build will be up soon.

Few complications with build that I know of so far are as follows but James has sorted all out are;

01.RMM 3" stainless Double de-cat pipe brought from PHR did not line up properly & had to be slightly modded to fit perfect.

02.Down pipe from turbo to double decat needed to be modded with bolts to fit flanges as was extremely close to steering pole coming through bulk head to rack.

03.Oil drain braided line from turbo had to be shorten as was to long.

04.Intercooler pipe from turbo to intercooler had to be modded to fit.

05.Some of exhaust flange bolts had to be drilled as original ones did not line up.

But sure James at ToyotGt might add few comments about these once looked at this thread.

Also want to say big thanks to Heckler popping down today as well & given us a spin in his PHR Street Single too.

To be honest all was just perfect timing with it all happening, old hybrids out & turbo side striped down, had good offers for everything with new hybrids fully refurbished & all other parts turbo side sold everything in one afternoon with out advertising anything & at they stage was very good choice for PHR Street Single conversion to go ahead.

Just over 3K which includes all top spec parts & labour but sold all old parts that came of for around £1800 so far & still few parts left to sale still.

So around £1200 but I had all other major parts needed + complete with new re-build on engine all done.

See my full engine spec in my Garage.

Install pics

Nice fitting manifold with hole tapped for EGT sensor
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3049-Copy.jpg

Wastegate adapter had a warped surface but a nice think gasket so fingers crossed no extra expenese needed to make good seal.
Wastegate otherwise fit very nicely. The wastegate had a double vband flange fitment meaning rotating for perfect dumptube exit angle was very easy
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3054.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3055.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3063.jpg

Turbo was test fitted to check clearances. All was great
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3059.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3060.jpg

Installing the downpipe was a finger busting job as any amount of twizzling bolts whilst supporting the pipe in position was in vain, it wasnt possible to put in more than 2 downpipe to turbo bolts at one time. Heres why!

The bolt holes drilled in the downpipe were to my surprise not accurate
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3064.jpg

After some redrilling the downpipe was able to slide up to the turbo
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3070.jpg
and refitted
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3074.jpg

The oil return line was trouble the fitment to sump was very tight with a subframe bolt and the line provided ready to install was about 3 inches too long which meant forcing it into place would have had it rubbing up against the steering coloumn, I removed it, broke the connection open, cut the pipe and remade the connection.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3075.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3076.jpg

Other pipe connections were made along with some capping of now redundant pipes
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3079.jpg

I was concerend with the location of the boost solinoid, heat might have been a problem so that was relocated.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3080.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3081.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3082.jpg

Once under the car it was very visible there was a clearnace issue with the downpipe and steering column meaning it was impossible
to get a bolt through the hole to make a connection with the exhaust.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3090.jpg
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3089.jpg

I removed the downpipe again and tapped the hole in question with a 14ml tap so a bolt/thread could be screwed in.
The double decat section of exhaust once fitted to the downpipe wouldnt line up with the rear section of exhaust.
http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i268/team3s/workshop3091.jpg
Some time and heat had it bent into the correct shape.

One thing for lui to consider is your top hard pipe hose for the rad looks to be to long and will be putting a lot of strain on the plastic rad, would be worth replacing that for a silicon hose or shorting the metal one before it cracks the rad.:)

James/Lui are you going to mention some of the fitment issues to Joe/PHR as these are obviously only a prob on RHD motors.

I dont know why they didnt make the street kit vband for the downpipe like all the other kits, would possibly allow for more clearance.

Already spoke to Joe@PHR the other night telling him of the few minor issues that James@ToyotaGt had in fitting the single kit & also sent Joe link to this thread for him to have look at & hopefully will get reply with his comments soon.

Like you said Wez if they done downpipe from turbo with V-Band connection instead of bolted flange there would of been a bit of extra twist to make it not so close to the steering column.

That is the biggest problem with USA kits, they are based on kits designed for the steering column on the intake side.

All looking forward to collect last Thursday till got phone call Wednesday saying only firing on 5 cylinders>
James thought was doggy injector so took all 6 out sent of to get clean & flow tested all came back to ToyotaGT on Friday with report saying all was fine.
They did not have time to refit injectors today but hopefully will do on Monday & hopefully solve problem.
Just seems strange all working perfect with testing Tuesday & now not.

Yes Ryan and Lee spent a while poking things, scratching heads and hmmmming alot! a dodgy coil pack plug (bad contacts) were found, oddly and for future reference this gave a sympton of a very quiet Injector on that cylinder, once it was replaced all was well and the injector was audily the same as the other 5.

All good to roll.

So was the spark being flooded by incoming mixture? Or was there some feed back to the injector, actually it to work at a very low duty compareed to the others?

Lui I would change those connectors. If they were anything like two of mine, they were taken on and off the packs a few times before the final fit, and appeared fine. The final plug in did it for them, when dissconected again they were in bits internally.

Hi James just spoke to Ryan & will call you in morning to tap water injection feed into intercooler pipe where Ryan showed you today & I have a plug to plug that off threaded hole in throttle body where old one came out & also a special straight connector + extra bit tubing to extend it to where needed cheers Lui

Ordering tyres tomorrow + ordered 2 new rear blistien shocks from Chris Wilson today.
Going to get all done ready for Ryan.G to map next Tuesday.

Cheers Joe mate thanks for doing us great deal on all parts + super fast service in getting them all over to me I think a few points you need to look at listed below hopefully have few answers for & kit was not straight forward & few mods had to be done listed below;

Cheers Lui

Few complications with build that I know of so far are as follows but James has sorted all out are;

04.Intercooler pipe from turbo to intercooler had to be modded to fit but knew that might be needed as my intercooler was a Blitz LM V-Spec that was not on your list.

05.Some of exhaust flange bolts had to be drilled as original ones did not line up.

Well just got back from great afternoon out @SRR with Ryan.G & Charlie there & fantastic results

508 BHP@fly wheel at 1.3 bar :eyebrows:

427 BHP at rear wheels :)

Around 500+ ft/lbs of Torque :eyebrows::eyebrows::eyebrows:

Perfect boost & torque curves with no lag AT ALL ;)

AFR's all perfect 11.1 on full boost & between 14.4- 15.3 on normal cruising

75% Duty cycle on the injectors

850 EGT's on full boost

Car just pulls & pulls + throws you back in the seats & quite scary what a difference compared to twins & hybrids :p

All set up done to these settings as Ryan did not want to push more power as much more to go due to keeping auto box safe :(

Pic's & vid's + dyno sheets will put up later once downloaded

Great drive home car sounds absolutely AWESOME & it FLY's !!!

Highly recommend the PHR Street Single Kit

Sure Ryan will put up his comments later too

Just want to say once again BIG THANKS to all the guy's at ToyotaGT for doing a amazing install & to Ryan.G for all the mapping & Charlie@SRR for doing the dyno

Well its going to be an earlier night tonight.... have officially lost my voice answering every questions of Lui's :d ..... But it was worth it seeing his face when he put his foot down the first time and lifted off straight away :rlol:

But was a good day, every car went well and was nice to have a car that was trouble free mechnically on the dyno and didn't need any fiddling. Good work ToyotaGT!

The power and torque curves at the top end of the graphs lui has are spot on, but as Lui's manual mode on the gearbox was playing up we couldn't start the run at say 2000 rpm which ment the run started higher, in turn effecting the torque lower down as the rpm scaling gets affected. The car made 485ftlb higher up so would say it was easily around 510ftlb lower down as this thing spools faster than the stock twin

Decided to stop at 1.25bar as wanted to keep the power at a level where it wasn't going to ruin the box 50 miles down the road but its enough for Lui :)

Also decided to keep the AFR's in the low 11's due to the EGT's getting abit hotter in the 4th gear pulls with the PHR cast manifold and the engine seemed to like the richer mixture.

Ryan - I see you nailed the AFRs at the transition point in the end, I knew you would :) How did you find the EMU? Did you use my base map in the end or start from scratch?

Ryan had to do a few alterations on base map due to when engine was warmed up did not want to restart again but with slight few adjustments he sorted that out.
Ryan was also amazed how good the e-manage was & handle it all & was quite impressed with it.
Also still had intermittent problem with manual mode with slip control light flashing like i had when i saw you last & tried to adjust them sensors on throttle body so they could not lock gearbox in 3rd gear & hold it so with the power they done best as they could & then done final bit's on the road. One thing on my list to get done.
Perhaps Ryan can put bit more light on questions above too

Hi Ian

Yh used Charlie’s map as a base and it helped lots with the scaling you used as really enables you to get the fueling at that point spot on. Having the use of the dyno also helped as could load cell hold it at the points it liked to go lean and then trim the fueling to suit.
Have done about 6 EMU’s now and they are easily the best piggyback unit available, having looked at others like the map ecu 2 it does really come into it’s own being able to trim the fueling without affecting the airflow which changes timing as well as fueling.

Yh the power tailing off also surprised me as well with the 264 cams at first, adding timing at the top didn’t change it as well. When viewing the road speed vs tractive effort you could see it wasn't gaining any speed at this point so was like the Autobox was getting ready to change and creating a soft limiter. Dont forget the rpm is most likely wrong as we couldn't hold it in gear to teach the rpm without the manual mode. Might be the TC slipping also. After this we decided to leave it there as worried about the box.

Still worry about the fueling changing about abit with the EMU on boost which is why I also like to keep them abit richer and luckily lui’s prefered that. But have to say you can get the fueling pretty linear with the EMU as you can see on the prints.

Good to see you around though pal

Ryan

Was meaning to go single long time go when had engine re-build with Mark @ Phoenix due to cost & having good deal with set of hybrids at time decided to go hybrid route was please with it at time till done 5,000 miles & hybrid's had seals going back in august to be honest thought they would have lasted much longer.

Then car went to James at ToyotaGT to have them stripped out & fixed under warranty thanks to Gaz @Envy for sorting them out.
While car was stripped down turbo side had great offer by another member to buy my hybrids / injectors + resistor pack that could not refused then decided time to go single.

Done my research on choice of kit to go for & decided on the PHR Street Single Kit.

As my car was already fully BPU'ed with all quality goods did not need much to get turbo kit supplied by Joe at PHR / set of 650 PE injectors + few others small bit's & bobs here & there.

Was so impressed with all work carried out by James@ToyotaGt 10/10 for all they done could not ask for a better install well done guy's not one drop of water / oil leak no hoses popping off there really took 100% care of my car throughout duration of it being there.

Finally picked up my car in November & just driving it off boost for mot + new tyres & blistien shocks fitted.

Then it come to mapping session with the magical man Ryan G & Charlie@SRR & after 1 hour of fiddling with laptop & settings they totally transformed my Supra into a animal with very big wow factor could not ask for better kit to be fitted I am now one very happy person car goes like a rocket & sounds like a euro fighter with after burners switch on :eyebrows: Great unbelievable power, Superb Torque factor, Perfect AFR's, low EGT's & no lag at ALL

Well clocked up 300 miles now since conversion has been done & all I can say is WOW !!! what a difference another one of the best mods that I have done & highly recommend kit & everyone that has worked on my supra can't say enough thanks to you all.
Best bit of drive so far was going through Hatfield tunnel on boost 500+ BHP / Blitz Nur Spec-R double 3" de-catted roaring away / wastegate screaming a sound I will never forget.

The missus had said she will never go it my supra again due to non stop attention & AWESOME power + sounds it has now :d:d:d

One thing i suggest to you all if thinking iof going single is to do all your pre-checks to make sure engine is fine don't cut corners on parts & you won't be disappointed of the end results just puts big smile on my face every time I'm in it now to beyond believe.
And make sure you have a decent fitter & mapper too!!!

Have look in my garage for full set up of what i have to reach this awesome street powerfull car that not many cars out there now will have no chance
My Supra is just a AWESOME street car now with no lag at all & loving it.

Will keep you all updated of how she running with 1000 miles clocked up.

Also looking forward to see what I get on full tank of full & if better on consumption than twin set up but not in one way bothered as everything well worth it if it only done 100 to tank full.

Just new set of wheels & custom seats to do now.

Nice writing Lui.

Your thread will be really helpful for people struggling with their single route decision. ;)

Regarding the fuel consumption, I do around 300mls with on tank ... without driving on full throttle all the time (... however often) :D

Lui judging by your reaction, the single turbo is a vast improvement over hybrid route (which I was thinking of taking a bit later on).

Also - are you still on the auto box - did you need to do any mods to that if so?

Just loving the single highly recommend PHR Street Single kit & still on auto box all running fine just added a Mocal decent 19 row cooler to keep temps down

Your thread has inspired me to seriously consider this kit, is there anything you wished you had done different?

IanC- on the cams, how much difference would JDM/JDM or JDM/UKex or 256's make to Lui's torque and power curves?

Cheers mate,
Your answer is no very pleased with all that is done & as for getting pure results on torque curve with cams had trouble keeping it 3rd gear on rollers due to man switch on gearbox intermittent so could not lock in 3rd gear but then finished it off on the road & now VERY VERY impressed & Supra is VERY quick no lag at all with the performance IMO no more needed for road use very happy with set up & power as it is.

Good feedback Lui and thanks for the call on Thursday.

Two questions for you:

- how are you finding the 3G brakes? are they better (more hard wearing) than toyota ones?

- the heatsheild you use in your engine bay (behind the turbo) where did you get that from?

many thanks

Hi imi mate,
I presume Brembo 3G brakes are much better than stock one's but to be honest im not of one of these drivers to keep at speeds & braking very late.

With heat shield stuff pm Heckler as he gave me some spare of what he had.

Just seen this :) All that waiting to be told "I don't know" haha

I'm a big fan of the 256/264 combo and the 264/264 does good things as well. The difference above 5500rpm is highly noticeable, and the difference at the low end isn't. No dyno tests to back this up though, it's all arse-dyno :)
