View Full Version : Sealed boxes
What would be the result of putting a sub in a box smaller than recomened. ie. sub recomended to be put in a 1.3 cu ft box in a 1cu ft box.
I'd like to know the same thing John...
But, whatever the answer, that's exactly what I'm gonna' do
in mine.
I WILL have sub(s) in the back and I WON'T lose all my (already
miniscule) boot space ! ! (I'll make TOO-small-a-box)
Even if I'm sacrificing Quality - so be it !
[ still like the OFFICIAL answer anyhow - then see what happens
in practice (practise ? ) ]

You can stuff the box with speaker enclosure wadding to partly compensate for the smaller volume. You'll probably lose some low end output but in the Supra I wouldn't worry about it too much. Because of the shape and the size of the interior you will have a lot of bass loading anyway.
You can always make a temporary box with the volume you are planning and listen to it first.

Ideally, get yourself a sub that's designed to go into a smaller enclosure.
Kicker, Alpine, Kenwood... Nearly all the big players willl have a 10" that will happily go into a 0.5 cu ft. enclosure. They do tend to require more power to reach the lower frequencies though.
