Sorry couldn't resist after the NUR spec-r thing.

Theres a thread on supra forums about the german supra meet at the ring. Nurburgring meet (http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=162764)

Could be a nice trip through germany and nice trip round the track. I'll have to check the diary, but it can't be anything but fun.

Now that is tempting...

So who is intrested?

TIM?
Simon?
Millhouse?

I'm very intrested need to find out a little more out about getting there, i.e. across the channel, insturance, AA, hotels etc.. Has anyone been there before with a supe that can help.

Been looking here today but the guy is mainly in to bikes dont know what diffrences will be?nurburgring info (http://www.nurburgring.org/)

millhouse
16-01-04, 20:12
we should get a return on the channel tunnel for about £60 if we speek to Earthrokka

Timwildman
16-01-04, 20:15
That sounds very good. I got a route off the AA from calais, to nurburgring and it was only 4and a bit hours, and thats driving within the law:innocent: Just need to find out about insurance and breakdown cover etc..

millhouse
16-01-04, 20:32
Try RAC (http://www.rac.co.uk/breakdowncover/european/)

millhouse
16-01-04, 20:37
Calais to Nurburgring is 290 miles

i was going to watch the F1 there in 2001, but i could not get any tickets, so i went to the French GP at Magny Corrs instead

SimonB
16-01-04, 21:05
I drove back almost past the 'ring last year on my way back from my Europe trip, but I stopped off in Brussels so I'm not sure on the times. Bit longer than 4 hours I'd say. Most insurance includes cover in Europe these days, you just have to tell them when you're going. If you're in the AA, breakdown cover will cost you £34 for up to 24 days  . RAC is much the same.

In theory if you are driving at night you should have headlight convertors, but I drove 3000miles and never bothered. Well actually I did buy some, but couldn't figure out where to stick them :stupid:. Also in theory in Germany + Beligium you are supposed to carry a first aid kit, warning triangle and fire extinguisher. Oh, and whatever you do DO NOT take a radar detector or anything that looks like one into France. They will literally rip your car to bits to remove it and confiscate it. Driving over there is so much better than here though.

I just bought tunnel tickets to go to Le Mans this year - they were £113 return, but they were doing a special offer at the time which has now finished. If you join the points plus scheme you get 10% off (but it costs to join).

paulrenn
18-01-04, 15:34
Oh, forgot to mention...been to a couple of these German Toyota club meets at the 'Ring - usually pretty well organised, plenty of cars to check out (not all done in the best possible taste, it might be said... :innocent: ) but pretty good day/weekend out. Might consider joining this meet.

Timwildman
27-01-04, 20:22
I looked at the tunnel web site today.. wait for it to go to France on the Thursay night and return to the UK on Saturday afternoon. cost £150  so anyone know how to get a cheaper ticket? I also forgot its the easter bankholiday to mega traffic

SimonB
28-01-04, 17:43
Could always get the ferry from Poole Tim. It's a four hour crossing though, and a longer drive the other end too. Plus last time I went on it I had to put up with a couple of "entertainers" doing Chris DeBurgh covers on a keyboard in the bar for two hours...

Earthrokka

Despite the fact he's an ugly bastard, I quite enjoyed having Keith C along for the 'dam trips :)

I'm definitely going to head over to Germany and the 'ring this year, so it may as well be with you kids for a bit more fun.

I'm not sure my car will be ready for the Green Hell but would be well up for being someones co-pilot! I won't affect your power to weight ratio too much, I have good personal hygiene, and I don't scream during brisk driving :D

More than happy to go halves on petrol costs etc.

Just had a look on hte GT4oc and they've got a couple of peeps going. looks like the hotels around ther are geting booked up quickly. the closest cost 50euro for a single 75euro for a double.

So what would people like to do.
How many nights?
Tunnel £60ish (Min 8 people) of boat?

CJ

I will go with the flow as far as number of nights but would prefer a single room as I snore and my feet smell! :)

No problem you've got far more impotrtant things to think about.

Supragirl, i'm still looking into places to stay and getting across the water, Eurotunnel looking expensive, £160 for 5 day return :( Unless anyone can get us a better deal. Aparently they need more than 15 cars to give a discount. Might have to be the boat.

Timwildman
19-02-04, 21:12
Ok waiting on mail from these places what do people think?

Ferry (https://www.ferrysavers.com/passengers.asp?BK=2272965&S=ferrysavers&SD=0&AD=AD&AC=&AT=&SH=0&IC=&IP=&IE=&IS=0&DP=0870%20990%2084%2092)

OK looking at hotels in brussels as a stop over, as there quite cheap and seems to be the only place in Belgium worth visiting.

hotel near brussles 67e single 75e twin (http://www.hotels-belgium.com/leuven/ac-leuven.htm)

Nearer to the ring, hope to get in to hotel close to the ring:

38 euros I think (http://www.pension-muehlenhardt.de/)

At the moment 1 euro is 67p

45euro + 5 euro for parking

both include breakie. it's about £79 all in at the rates today not too bad for 2 nights. Both are pay when we turn up.

Any more takers? the more the merrier.

When you say booked, does that mean you've booked the hotels for us or we need to like the crossing?

Timwildman
10-03-04, 18:15
No booked for everyone, because we can pay when we get there. Where as the ferry people want money upfront, and the cancelation fee is almost as much as the fare. so if I booked for everyone then I end up paying if people cant make it. I can book the ferry if you want as long as you promiss to pay :D

Doh, guess that sailing is full you'll just have to take the later or earlier which ever suites you best. I asked the girl how many spaces there were but she said she couldn't tell me. It doesn't really matter which, just means there will be a bit of waiting around.

For those who are interested, I have printed out the attachment of the circuit and made it into a magazine format booklet. I have 9 of these to give away on the day on a first come first served basis.

TBH, you dont want to read it before the drive, that track is very frightening.

Got my Green card through today:D. just need to sort out travel insurance.

Does any one want a euro sticker to go next to there number plate? The one with the blue background stars and GB bit. Thought it would be better to get a sticker to look like the bit on a number plate, rather than an old fashoned, great big white GB sticker.

Is anyone getting track insurance? Is it worht it?

You need a sticker if you dont have a euro stylie number plate. I was just going to get a sticker made up to look like a euro plate(only the blue bit) then stick it on a space on my huge number plate. It'll look better and save fitting new plates :)

CJ
26-03-04, 20:19
I have a tiny front number plate and a big squeare rear plate. I wonder where I could get one of these sticker jobbies?

Marco
26-03-04, 20:35
I got a little GB sticker at my local carshop here in Bicester. Its quite small and stuck it on my rear window. It's not that visible from the rear, but who cares? ;)

"but it is there mr police officer, cant you see, or do you need glasses?" :D

I can get you one and bring it to the meet sunday CJ?

SimonB
26-03-04, 20:41
In theory you are supposed to carry a fire extinguisher in Belgium, and a medical kit and warning triangle in France and Germany. Halfords do a kit that has a GB sticker and this stuff, but to be honest I wouldn't worry too much, I very much doubt that anyone would notice.

The one thing you must do is make sure you have nothing that could be mistaken for a speed camera detector. They are very strict on this in France, and if they suspect you have one they will apparently rip your car to bits in order to confiscate it, even if it's a GPS jobby that doesn't work in Europe anyway.

Tim - not much point bothering with travel insurance I would have thought. Fill in an E111 and that takes care of medical care in Europe, and your car insurance probably covers everything else.

So what time are we all going to meet up? we need to be at Dover by 5:30, so i'm thinking leave Bournemouth at 12ish got plenty of time for bankholiday traffic? Anyone else any ideas, As i've never driven to dover before. Guess we can all meet up along the way.

It's about time I sorted it out, so i've added a lttle bit to my web site about our little trip to the Nurburgring.

Web site (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/timwildman/index.htm)

And some videos, not the best compression on the videos, but you get the idea.

Great vid!
I love the way you owned that X5!

The petrol bill wasn't nice, but if you floor it all the way, what do you expect :D

Hee hee, watched the big vid now, good stuff. Love that X5 bit. If you look when I come past at high speed at one point you can really see my front bumper bowing out at the bottom where I didn't have the front undertray on. Aerodynamics (of lack of) in action!

Just waiting for the Kev/Rosie vid now then. Come on guys, get it sorted! :) I'm looking forward to that bit where we were trying to find some petrol and poor old CJ was getting all stressed :innocent: . Oh and surely there's some Nurspec tunnel sound footage in there somewhere too .
