cam belt kit where from?

After seeing my mrs cars engine in pieces from a cam belt failure i want mine changing as i cant afford the supes to go as well.

been quoted 100 quid for belt change and aux belt swap for the labour. Where can i get hold of a kit?

i know mt T does one but surely it can be sourced cheaper than him.

The Supra has a non-interference head - the pistons won't hit the valves if the belt breaks, so don't worry tooooo much about it!

The belt from Toyota is about £35 and the tensioner is about £50. (Cost me about £87ish last week from Steve Manley)

It's a 2 1/2 hour job to do yourself if you have the tools. (Did one last week)

nah dont have the tools but the garage across the road wil do it for 2 1/2 hrs labour so gonna get the kit myself and get them to do it for me

I just had a new cam belt, fan belt, core plug on the water pump and all the gaskets for it and all the bits cost £97 from Fish Brothers Toyota in Swindon. Not sure if this is expensive or not but I was pleased. Have my own local mechanic though so that was extra but it wasn't expensive all in all.

is that all thats required the core plug on the waterpump or do i need it all

It is very unlikely that either of the tensioners will need replacing, the belts can be found at any good parts place, i use Gates belts, timing is about £19 and serpentine is £15.

ahh right so i dont have to replace the tensioner then as first thought when you do the changes

I can supply all genuine Toyota parts at a good price if needed.

Cannot believe you are looking at buying belts off ebay to save £20-£30.

Si, out of interested who's doing it locally? Have they worked on a Supra?

I keep the Supra timing belts in stock (genuine) for £32.

the belts off ebay are gates belts, other ppl use them why not me?

Can get the HKS belt(£110ish) and the and matching pulleys(240ish) all come in a lovely purple and look tasty! think sumo do em, depends on ur budget tho m8!!

Nothing wrong with Gates belts mate, far from it, in fact i would hazard a guess that Toyota belts are actually manufactured by them or one of the other major manufactures, like a lot of things

The HKS ones are very pretty, this is the best photo of them I have which was taken quite early in the build.
