Guest Fusion
Hi first post here so please bear with me Just brought a standard twin turbo engine supra looking into modifying the engine just wondering if i can get some advice on what in your experience will increase bhp and roughly what cost each mod will cost im looking to spend around £2000 initially but overall i dont really have a budget just want to take it slow till i start to understand more about it as this, as this will be my first modded car Im based in essex so contact details for any suppliers or decent performance supra specialist service centres would be appreciated Thanks in advance for your help Terry
jamesmark
For £2k you will get a the car to BPU level. First things first though is get the car serviced, all fluids etc. Do a search on BPU, there is loads to read up on.

Oh and on your quest for to make the car bpu, stay away from cheap ebay rubbish, you cannot chip a supra. We have some real good traders on here. If you do it properly you will have a great car. R Black
Welcome Terry, i take it your used the car and power already, and feel its time for a power upgrade, the 1st car you will have modded you say, what cars did you drive before this? Homer
Welcome First of all - check the tyre's are of a high quality brand and have good tread depth. If they are looking old or worn swap them out Next, get the brakes checked and ensure the discs are not worn and a suitably good quality pad is installed. If not done in the last couple of years flush the fluid and replace with Motul 5.1 Next, get the suspension arms, drop links, tie rod ends and damper checked for play or leakage. Replace as needed Next, get a full laser allignment done from a reputable specialist. Next, make sure the car is fully serviced - all fluids are replaced in the last 3 years, the rad cap is looking new, the fuel filter changed recently, same with air filter, oil, oil filter, etc, etc Finally, and if you are new to RWD cars, get some training or track time to familiarise yourself with the car. Skidpan is superb for the winter months that are not so far away. Then, if all is well you have BPU to play with. Do not go bpu before all the rest is done, I cannot stress this enough
RiceRocket
Hello I think for 2k you should do the full service and upgrade front brakes to UK-spec at least, then later do the BPU as mentioned.

Guest Fusion
Welcome Terry, i take it your used the car and power already, and feel its time for a power upgrade, the 1st car you will have modded you say, what cars did you drive before this? Ive had a few cars my first was a basic 1.2 8v punto when i passed my test upgraded to a punto sporting and thought that was fast at the time silly old me Then i brought a stilo schumacher got car number 17 that was quick and fun round corners but it keeps breaking even from new so got a lexus IS220d from new as my everyday car had a porsche boxster 2.7 aswell as my second car decided to chop this in and get my dream a supra ive always wanted one ever since i was a kid so that what ive been driving up to today got my supra from a guy whos a member on here i believe a guy called matt from near colchester car is very well cared for and in very good condition so dont think there are any major outstanding issues with car thanks Terry
Homer
That must have been owned by a member here, who was it? It's already BPU, but if its a member the history will be one here more than likely. That spec is quite nice, so it suggests it's well cared for
Ewen
Yup, its BUP. (basically the same as BPU, but BPU doesn't rhyme with yup)

Keep it at 1.1 mate. 1.2 bar is regarded as the safest peak boost on J-Spec turbos. Stock boost is appx 0.8 bar, there is quite a differnce between stock and 1.1 bar. R Black
Your car is already upgraded to bpu. another say 60 bhp over standard so it will cost you nothing just enjoy.

Homer
I recognise it, but can't think who owns it. Nice spec, but asd mentioned in my longer post you should still get the basics checked. It's alwasy best to keep a £1k or two spare just in case it needs anything. Just make sure you have the money available in case the valve stems need doing, a new set of tyre's is needed, a turbo pops, the list goes on. Sometimes these things happen in a short timeframe, so just make sure you have the money available 'just in case' it does.

Thanks for your advice im fairly lucky in that I wont really have a problem finding money to get repairs done even if they crop up quickly Even though the car has apparently a BPU upgrade already what else can be done for the initial 2K budget sorry to ask even though ive been told to enjoy it ....im a speed junkie ...im looking to build a car that is a show stopper for cruises but more impotantly one that could possible endure and perform in the Gumball Rally so again your help is appreciated thanks Terry
Homer
show stopper for cruises Sorry to say but if thats your "scene" you'll be quickly alienated from here. If you like that sort of thing then it'll be a sad demise into the neons, bodykits and "grafix". If you're not a chav then keep it stockish looking, get the engine and suspension properly sorted out (not just bolt on mods) and go from there. Once you get to 1.1-1.2 bar on the stock tubbies further performance gains are very minimal for the huge expense needed to keep the stock system. If you really want to go to the next level, then look towards the single turbo route. Massive power, improved drivability (well, about 40mph), but obviously it's pretty expensive to take things to the next level. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a very experienced driver of high HP RWD cars Edit - Gumball - do you know how much thats costs now? Why on earth would you buy a supra for it! Not really into neons body kits and grafix as i think that a bit chavy too but i do know a lot oif people from the santa pod scene alot of the organisers of mod events the Fuel crew and other petrol heads through work...I run a production company link enclosed http://www.light-design.tv we supply most of these events with light av and special effects equipment Im in a position where i can put together a car as a promo for my company and most of its tax deductible due to advertising so hence why i want to do something a bit special I am also for similar reasons looking to do the gumball or cannonball i have a good connection and friendship with richie warren who i do events for who is a key part of the gumball and im in a postion to possibly get a discount from these events that are all a tax write off anyway anyway im Just looking for power and more of it to help with my plan hence why i am seeking your advice i choose a supra because i like them more than anything else i could have brought anything but these cars i have always liked if people on here are very judgemental about what you do and where you take your cars then that is there business im a 31 year old grown up petrolhead not a 21 year old chav im in need of help and advice with a plan and a dream so if that doesnt work for people on here no problem But still for those that do care your help would be appreciated Thanks Terry
Guest Fusion
This one Main problem with it- its not black. Oh and sort that crankshaft seal out mate Hi Matt good to see you on here thanks for the car its reallly magic much appeciate buying the car from you it was exactly what i was looking for Im actually quite happy with the silver colour for now but if i change my mind i ll consider the black.. to be honest the colour i would really prefer is a colour BMW use on the new M3 its called estoril blue dont know if you have seen this colour or if anyone has done a supra in this blue but its a really nice colour anyway nice speaking to you ill definatly keep in touch as you advice to appreciated by the way if you had 2k for engine mods what would you do?? thanks again Terry
Homer
Excellent, sorry if I was a little judgemental, but we get a heck of a lot of dreamers put up on here, pretty much all of which asked the same questions as you (but with far worse grammar ) and then disappear in a few weeks or flog the car in a few months. I'm now a little excited to hear more if you really do have money to spend It's a really good car to start with and has some decent mods, but to go to the "next stage" in terms of outright power will take massive investment (single turbo) What are you aims for the car - high 1/4's, track car, show piece, etc... ? With the current spec there's not a lot you could do with £2k to make any real difference to the outright power side of things.
