Should i sell my Elise for a Supra????

Looking at selling perfect nick 98 Elise on and getting something a couple of grand cheaper and am seriously lookin at the supra's. What yous think??

Want to spend bout 6 - 7k on one witha bit kit on which seems pretty average these days! Looking with VinePlace in newcastle, any good??

Cant decide between black or white, n/a or TT, dont want ridiculous fuel consumption with a TT was only concern!

ah, can anyone post me over any good threads on buyers advice like serviing costs, reliability, stuff to look out for n usual banter.

personally i would suggest that buy a TT. they hold a better value and an absolute blast to drive. you find it very twitchy an dloose compared to your elise but trust me you wont regret, an n/a you could find very cheap, the tt however is more expenise and the skys the limit for performance. make sure you get one as low mileage as you can, make sure its been looked after and check the usual's oil, rust etc.

I honestly wouldn't bother with an NA.

Is there a ton more to go wrong with a TT though?

Are these cars never out the garage with them being a bit older or should i start believing in japanese engineeing! ha

Well i only do bout 15 mile a day up dual carriageway so fuel isent really too bad but dot want to be pulling 10 to 15mpg everywhere thats all. 20 to 25 can handle

A stock TT is very reliable, so is a stock NA.

A tuned/BPU/messed about with TT as not so reliable but still good. Most NAs are fairly stock because you can't tune them hardly at all.

You need to be able to afford say £1k to repair your car if the worst happens (turbos or heater matrix are the most likely expensive items, although both quite rare failures really)

If £1k seems a lot, again, a Supra isn't the car for you.

18-20 mpg is about right for a TT. Maybe a little more for a NA if you're careful.

You won't be getting 25mpg from a Supra.

i think these cars are solid as rocks, and if i had of held out a few more years i think i definatly would of bought a TT aerotop only thing that held me back at the time was the cost of insurance

Err. I averaged 26 - 28 on my bi weekly trips to the north west. Not booting it all the time but not hanging around either.

Motorway driving you can. my NA gave around 22mpg doing the daily drive to/from work just 10 miles away so not too bad.

Are we talkin like 2 or 3 mpg difference here or 10's of miles difference? Starting to sway towards TT at the moment.

What are yearly average serviceing costs and does anyone know a specialist in north east for them??

Everything on a major service including belts, suspension all fluids etc. will be up around £900. Of course you don't need a major service every year, but it's wise to change oil every 4500 and do the standard stuff like plugs and air filter.

I have a stock auto TT. I return about 18mpg for mixed driving and can get it up to 28-29mpg for long, relaxed motorway runs. Wouldn't that be fairly similar to an Elise?

If you have a looked after example servicing costs aren't too bad at all. In my two years of ownership I reckon it has averaged out to about £500 per year. This could be much improved if you carried out your own oil changes and such like.

There is nothing wrong with NAs

You will notice a world of difference going from an Elise to any supra, I find the elises always feel faster than they actually are, this could be due to noise etc.

Top speed is 126mph (202 km/h) and 0-60mph time is 5.8 seconds, though this varies on fuel type and load in car. Fuel consumption (93/116/EC): Urban conditions 28.9mpg (9.6l/100km), Extra urban conditions 49.9mpg (5.7l/100km), Combined 39.4mpg (7.1l/100km). CO2 production is 168g/km. The fuel tank is stated in the brochure as being 36 litres but in reality it is over 40 litres.

Thats said get a TT or within 4 weeks you will think you are missing out.

Yeah that info is spot on for fuel etc. although mine is a bit faster than 5.6 0-60 because im pushing over 140bhp. Servicing seems around same price as Lotus too!

I think ill leave the N/A / TT argument to fate and just see what Vine Place get in in the next 6 weeks or so.

Unless anyone knows of anything for sale up here off someone repuitable but am not looking to buy for another 6 weeks to be honest.

Yeah ill pop Elise pics on when get home. Anyone interested in it like, will be goin on Pistonheads in next couple of weeks after MOT and new tires are done at dealership on thursday.

ditto on whats being said re fuel consumption. Mine is an N/A, a 93 and averages about 18-19mpg around town in traffic. Motorway maybe 22-23. Not great for an N/A but may need new oxygen sensors A stock TT will give you similar if its been well looked after but one that's had a power upgrade and other mods will return poorer mpg. You'll gain a few mpg more with an N/A but not a lot. in terms of 0-60, an NA will do it in about 6.3-6.5, a TT 4.6 when it came out the factory. There are some good guides in the newbie section here.

but aside from that, running costs can be high as these are old cars and things wear out. Keep on top of repairs and get regular sevicing and that solid Toyota reliability will show through. Insurance too is high and the new road tax will be painful

Finding a good garage is a major task but ask on here: Envy are local for you. See if anyone local will take you for a spin, an N/A and a TT for comparison.

A full major service inc timing and aux belts is around £600, using all genuine Toyota or better aftermarket parts where available
