Dashboard Odometer

Hi guys,

As with many others out there, my odometer readings are a mixture of kMS and Miles.

My question is:

If i get another odometer unit from another supra will it change my reading to the car it came out of?

and is there any way i can change the odometer and put in a new value all in miles?

thanks

purely out of interest, but how would you find out if the odo had been changed?

I'm assuming simply by changing the dash odo indicator unit this would not change the reading, as I'd assume the actual figure would be held in an ECU somewhere, and this part is purely a display?

I didnt realise changing a motors odometer was legal :D

Odometer correction is legal provided it's returned to the provide the correct mileage the chassis has done. If it's adjusted to something other than the valid mileage thens thats clocking which is obviously illegal and can result in a criminal conviction if caught.

if the first is a yes, couldnt i get a cars odo with the mileage of what my car should be and bung that in???

i also thought it was just a display and the milage was in the ecu.

Is there any official garage that would do this so when i come to sell the car i dont get suspected of clocking?

The total km/miles done by the car are stored in the odo, the ECU is not relevant. I had to change my ECU as the original had a fault. After the change the odo miles displayed were the same.

The odo can be altered to read miles, some importers will convert the KM reading on imports to miles and set the odo to read miles. When I ordered my car the odo photos in Japan were in KM, this figure was verified once the car got into the UK. The KM's were converted to miles and the new figure rolled onto the odo. I believe all the figures have to go through the DVLA for approval.
