Some honest project advise

Hi Guys

Been trying to organise a full parts list for a project car and after extensive discussion with specialist tuner near to me have come up with this list.Just looking some honest advise (as i know a lot of members have done project cars) on anythin that hasnt been taken into consideration.Im not the most mechanically minded person and told the specialist what i was looking for and this was what he ended up drawing together, and he said it would do no harm to check out what people have done projects before say regarding anythin they've fitted in this list that proved problematic.Theres a lot of money involved in it and as you'll appreciate, you want to make sure your doing somethin like this right.any comments are greatly appreciated guys

I would not go with HKS cam gears mate.Titan or unorthodox racing ones are better and have a 5 bolt lock system as for the HKS 3 bolt system.Hks ones have been known to slip in the past and you're putting a lot of money into the build by the looks of things.

thanks mate, will look into a set from titan

Nice spec list, i bet that lot adds up to a few bob, good luck with the project.:)

cheers Jamie.yea it adds up to quite a bit but i think the price i got is quite good,as its for doing all the work and having it fully prepped so all im doing is getin in and driving away.havent really priced round, just takin it that the specialist i enquired with is giving me an honest price for a good build as there is a scarcity of specialist mechanics in my area

I would add a VWR intake manifold.

I hope the car is everything you want, be sure to keep us updated:)

will have look at that Jamie, cheers.iv been saving for a long long time to do all this and have had some money left to me.its getin released on my 21st birthday at the end of september and i hope to start the project off very soon after this.it will be kept as my second car as i'm currently looking at getin an NA to drive around all the time.fingers crossed it all works out

Why not go for the Brembo monoblock front kit? It is only slightly dearer than the F50 kit but it is the best they make.

I have it fitted on mine together with the rear kit. It is awesome. Makes the uk spec setup seem like disc brakes!

SSI did all my work and I can strongly recommend them.

i think you have missed one vital piece of information here, what is your ultimate goal for the car, drag, track day, dyno queen or just a road car and what kind of power are you looking at, if i were you i would find a reputable tuner tell him what power you want and let him spec and build the car (maybe Envy or CW) you seem to have some contradictions in the engine spec, oversize valves - why ?, are you aware where the stock valves wont flow enough air and what they do to the power/torque curve, titanium retainers and dual valve springs would indicate a raised rev limit but 264 cams would limit the breathing and make the oversize valves a waste of time, carillo H beam - potentially overkill dependent on power level, HKS head gasket - if this is being used to lower compression then why not just get the correct pistons and do it properly, i'm not trying to make you look daft here mate just trying to demonstrate that all these items are interlinked and if you are serious about this you will be spending 20k so you need to get it right first time or you could end up very dissapointed

as said before paul,im unfortunately not that mechanically minded and have got this from the specialist ive been referred to.i will point all this out however and Nic has sent me some very useful information.I had the intention of getin around 600bhp for a really good, well setup street car.had contacted Gaz at Envy for a spec and price but heard nothin back so took it he might not have been interested in the work but i may get back in touch and also send Chris and Michel a PM in relation to this to seek some advise

thanks for the help mate

Solid engine mounts and flexible gearbox mount = something broken. Mild cams with big valves and fancy valve springs and retainers = wate of money. Twin 044 = OTT. HKS head gasket = waste of money, stock is fine. A lot of these polyurethane bush kits are far LESS sophisticated then the OE setup, blah blah. Sounds like a lot of frills for not a lot of point, IMHO.

Didn't quite want to get that blunt. But hey, that paragraph just saved you loads. Good job you asked here. :)

thanks chris.will be having a detailed look through all the posts and taking out/changing what seems to be a lot of waste parts from the spec i had outlined, seems to be quite a few parts OTT

I did put this list togather very quickly over an email one night, and yes, it was just a few ideas.

I had been asked about ideas and cost for an ultimate street killer setup of around 600hp with built in headroom for future increased power goals etc etc

It was by no means a definitive list, and was purely to give Herbie and Idea of what can go into a potential build.....
