Advice - MP3 player / Ipod

Need to get hold of one but have no idea about them.

Everyone seems to rave about the IPOD, but its just a glorified MP3 at the end of the day isnt it? or am i missing something?

I'm looking for a slim / small stylish looking player that produces excellent quality audio and could say hold at least 8gb (probably all i need)

any advice recommendations would be great. And maybe an explanation of why Ipods seem to rule the roost and they are pretty much all you hear about.

oh and i dont want to be paying the earth for it as i'm probably not one of these people that will use it 24/7 where ever or what ever they are doing

Get an iPod touch, then you can do lots more things :) like surf the web, watch movies, run other applications etc, probably overkill for just a music player but they're pretty cool bits of kit :)

Depends on your budget really, the iPod is just so easy to use and makes storing/playing your music so simply. Plus there are loads of extras you can get for it to turn it into much more than just an MP3 player.

I use ipod because i like I-tunes and its easy, never really looked into alternatives tho.
