First of all may I say Hi to everyone and give you a bit of background. My name is Chris. I live just outside Exeter in Devon. I have until recently been very keen on Mk3 Supras and have had three over the last four years. I got the last one to almost concourse standard and I have been told by many that the car was an excellent example. However, I had a bit of a prang last month (ouch!!!) and this has caused me to think again about what I want to do in respect to cars.

I love the build quality of Toyota and the Mk3 was an easy car to work on but they are now getting long in the tooth and the Mk3 scene is not that strong. I know a few people with Mk4s and they all say the same. The club scene is strong, there are loads of knowledgeable people and the cars are easy to mod with loads of parts available.

My ideal car is a good condition NA aero. I know Knightrider pretty well and he has given me the taste to do something similar and I too fancy starting with an aero. I dont want the power he has but a few extra horses to call on and a nice six speed box would be on the cards. That would be a great winter project and getting a new Turbo on Xmas day would be preferable to new socks.

One thing I learnt on the Mk3 scene was that the best cars are those that are owned by enthusiasts. I would therefore like to ask if anyone on here knows of or has a good NA aerotop for sale. I have a reasonable wad of cash waiting and can up/down to suit the cars offered. Its fair to say I dont have a budget and will buy based on instinct. If its good and I like it then I will probably buy it.

I hope to get a car fairly soon and I am really looking forward to getting into the scene. I have lurked about for quite a bit on the forum and so I probably know a few of you through your posts. I will try to be active on the forum and cant wait to start meeting you at the shows and meets.

Chris, are you near Crediton?

Its just that a facelift NA aerotop (pretty rare) was recently on Ebay but didn't meet its reserve. (go on ebay and click advanced search for "supra aerotop" and click the "included completed listings" box and it'll be one of the first few listings)

I do not 'know' the car but its a desirable spec as far as NA's go. As i say its a facelift model, has the larger spec brakes and nicer stock 17's, it may make a good base car for your purposes?

Many thanks for the heads up. I have emailed the bloke and would like to go and see it. If this turns up as the one I owe you a drink

Hello again, the update is that I spoke to the chap who owned the Supra in Crediton but he works away in Germany. I need to get hold of him again to talk about the car but cannot because my mobile is lost (stolen!!!!) I have tried searching the original listing on Ebay but is not accessible. Does anyone know of a member in Crediton/Devon who was/is selling an Aerotop. Contact detail or member name for PM would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

Welcome Chris. :D

Its a breath of fresh air to have a new member come and introduce themself with such passion and having done their homework :Pling:

I'm sure you'll find the car you want, there's many out there. Perhaps asking one of our import specialists to look for a nice example in Japan would be an idea as you know what you're looking for?

First of all many thanks for the welcome and the messages.

I really am looking forward to getting an Aero. Its been a while now since the last one and I am starting to get withdrawal symptoms. I feel the need!!!!!!

I have a fair chunk of cash sat in my wallet so the sooner the better as far as I am concerned. There is a saying - the money is burning a hole in your pocket - how true.

Welcome to the Forum:) and good luck with the search.

The hunt goes on and I have to travel to see a private seller next week and that looks very hopeful. If that turns out to be a dud then there is one more that sounds very nice but it is a bit expensive and even further away. I have also spoken to Jurgen (nice Guy by the way) and have a great long term opportunity through him.

All in all my Karma levels are pretty good. This might just work out OK.

Here is the update. First of all a great big thankyou to all of you for the messages and posts of support. I am off to look at a car tomorrow. Its a P reg Silver Aerotop in supposedly excellent condition. I reckon I owe someone on here a big THANKYOU if it works out for pointing me in the right direction.

I spent a fair part of the day looking at insurance. Tried the usual suspects Flux and Sky but I also tried RAC. Blow me down the RAC were EXCELLENT. Took them a little while to sort out the group etc but in the end they gave us fully comp, Myself and the Mrs (and my huge prang in May) covered for SDP and Business with no restrictions for a better deal than the other two. All I need to do is see the car, drive it, ring up RAC and enjoy.

First job is to transfer the private plate, do a full internal/External/engine valet and think about the shopping list for a manual conversion.

Scooter - I owe you a drink. I got the one that you pointed out. VERY nice indeed. Silver, NA, big brakes, facelift model, interior is mint, big brakes, nice exhaust, minor bodywork issue (bloody shopping trolleys) 60K miles, lowered suspension and unmolested as far as these cars go.

I will post a few pics in a separate thread and put up the shopping list of bits I will need.

Many thanks

Chris
