Benyon
I have an annoying knocking noise from the back of my car, Is there anyone who knows what they are doing to have a quick look/drive of my car, I think it may be my rear top suspension rubbers on each side but before i pay £80 each i would like another opinion because someone has said that it wont be the top rubbers, Myself im no good with fixing cars. If your not to far away i can drive upto you.
tooquicktostop
Its not your boot rubbers is it, they have a very annoying knocking sound when perished
SteveR
My money would be on boot rubbers
Benyon
Boot rubbers as in the bit that goes round the hole frame of the boot? They look fine to me, If i try and shake the wheel side to side it makes the knock and can be felt through the car, however when jacked up and i shake the wheel there is no noise at all. spartan
No - the 'lumps' that sit in the gutters either side, just up from the lights (only visible with hatch open). There's a corresponding bit on the hatch itself. See: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=132338&highlight=boot+rubbers
bmx1lew
I changed my lower boot rubers which did get rid of some of the rattle, is it worth changing the top ones aswell?
lexsum
i had that too and changed them (not easy as the previous owner had had a go at the screws. chewed them up big time.) got a cheap set of replacements off ebay. an easy test is to take two pieces of cardboard and put them over the rubbers. close the boot lid onto them and then drive over some bumps. if the noise is gone that's the problem! bolarbag
I changed my lower boot rubers which did get rid of some of the rattle, is it worth changing the top ones aswell? Aren't the top ones plastic?
Benyon
Im gonna try the cardboard test but to be honest them rubbers look good condition. Plus the fact that if i shake the wheel it moves slightly and the knock comes from the top of the leg area.
Chris Wilson
Probably top wishbone joints or toe arm joints worn out, from the shake the wheel description. I'd change both top arms and both toe cotrol arms after ascertaining it is wear in the joints.
Benyon
What is the proper name for the top arms you speak of?
Chris Wilson
Rear top wishbones.
