Testing AV software

Been thinking, I always check my DL files with NOD, but never find anything.

Is there anyway of testing this scanning? ie download an infected file and scan it. Are there any 'safe' files out there?

Create a new text file in notepad with this line in it:

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Save the file.

Also zip it up and see if that gets picked up and try emailing it to yourself as a further test.

Edit: Too slow, that'll teach me to type things out :)

Nice one, NOD picked up all 4 files, so it is working.
Blooming scary big red screen popped up and let me kill the connection. :)
