View Full Version : Car suggestions please
Hi guys, i'm mulling over my options for a new (to me) car and can't really work out what i want so am open to suggestions.
I'd like something that's a bit of a sleeper, a bit quick (obviously not supra quick) but also not too flashy looking. Can be a 5 door, not really bothered about the size of it or badge snobbery. Also not bothered about the age of it.
Biggest thing is though, it needs to be less than £4000.
Any ideas?
Escort RST S2 all time classic brit car

Too many horror stories from friends who have had them about their terrible reliability.

Hi Jurgen, the wife's got a 150bhp Vectra SRI diesel and it's surprisingly quick!
Any volvo in particular to look at?

True but properly maintained ones should be fine, unfortunately its one of those cars the chav culture seems to love. I quite like the audi s2 getting on a bit but a great engine, turbo too :)

How about a celica gt4 toyota reliability, good fun, safe, and fairly economical when not being played with.

Very well, and with a few mods they go silly well. I personally dislike the FWD models, but as far as performance and reliability are concerned they are superb. The R model gets the very necessary LSD and a bit more power.

have loads of stuff about tuning them, and there's a plethora of high end brake, suspension, clutch and transmission upgrades available for them if you fancy going mad.

My mates got a 98 R reg V70 T5 estate and loves it - quick and very practical. The only downside he's having regrets over is that he didn't go for the 840 (I think that's the one the V70 replaced), which whilst being slightly older, is RWD :)

850 is FWD, the very last rear wheel drive model was the V90 (estate) and the S90 (saloon) I have a V90, but these models were N/A only and pretty sluggish.
Scorpio Cosworth
My Papa had one. Life of luxury inside with a nice kick in the rear when you put your foot down.
Nissan Stagea RS4? I've seen a couple of tidy looking examples on eBay for 2K.

You have left us with a bit of a "blank canvas" there Danny. Personally I would pay about £4400 for this.....;)
