xanderroan
Hey, I was out for a drive today and I have a noise coming from the front, sounds a bit like a fan belt, but higher pitch and slightly different, does not seem to be related to the engine though as revving in neutral doesn't effect it & it doesn't happen when stationary. It's also only at lowish speeds and stops if you apply the brakes slightly. Could this be a brake pad sticking on or something like that? Anyone have a similar experience, I was hoping to sell the car this weekend, so hoping to find out what this is and make sure it's nothing serious. Homer
Could be one of the metal tabs on the brake pad touching the disc (It's a warning to tell you the pads are nearly down to the metal). If its that you can just bend the tab back to stop the noise, but you will need new pads very soon. Either that or the brake pads might be down to the metal already - is there any sign of blueing on the disc surface?

jaymdee
Had exactly this on the MR2 when the AC unit outer pulley bearing (or something) failed and it was being forced to turn against it's will by the aux belt.
