Following on from my other thread:

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=151566&highlight=exhaust%3F

I was thinking about getting this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HKS-Hi-Power-409-Exhaust-Toyota-Supra-JZA80-2JZGE-NA_W0QQitemZ290189697767QQihZ019QQcategoryZ38786QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

It seems a reasonable price and have been told its similar to the HKS Silent HiPower which is not worth the extra money.

I have an NA and am fully decatted and need to seriously reduce the

decibel levels because at the moment my exhaust is ridiculously loud and the neighbours are complaining.

I need it to be quiet but have a roar when I put my foot down.

So what do you all think would this be a good option? :)

Can anyone help?

Any NA guys have this?

I got an Excess Power exhaust and its fully de-catted, I got the same problem, mine you can here a mile away, try and go easy on the accel pedel, try creaping at around 20mph, might be slow but atleast the noise level would have reduced, if i can do it and keep the noise down so the people dont say anything in my street, it should be ok for you.

I loked at the linm for the system on Ebay, i don't think that would cut much noise to be honest.

Something like a Tanabe touring medallion is a quiet system but flows well. Have a search for quiet exhausts, im pretty sure Nic posted up a list of them.

The HKS Hi Power is rated at 99Db on a stock NA (including cats) it will be quite a lot louder with the cats removed.

The Hi-Power and Silents Hi-Power are basically the same, the Silent Hi-Power is 100% stainless steel the Hi-Power is mostly mild steel. In the UK I would personally spend the extra on a full stainless steel system.

There isn't a Tanabe Touring Medallion specifically made for the NA, only the TT, so would be a lot louder on an NA. I'd personally choose an exhaust specifically designed for an NA, here is a list of the ones available.

Blitz Realize-TT

Blitz Realize-TTR

HKS Hi-Power

HKS Silent Hi-Power

Kakimoto N1

Kakimoto R

Fujitsubo Legalis R

Out of couriosity (sp?) what would cause Tanabe exhaust to be a lot louder, if basic difference in shape is first cat (decat) (which you could get seperately and connect rest of the system).

The turbos quieted the exhaust note a lot.

Another option would be to fit one of the following to reduce the noise when required.

Apexi Exhaust Control Valve

Or one of these that open as exhaust pressure builds.

Apexi Active Tail Silencer

SARD Torque Control Valve

I have a tanabe Medallion on my N/A at it is very very quiet!!!! I would like it to be louder in fact. Although I still have the cats in, plus I think the whole exhaust system is a pic and mix!!!

Standard manifold and downpipe with cats, centre section is powerflow i think and rear box as above.

Will post pics if interested

to be honest if it's fully decatted i can't see any aftermarket exhaust making it noticeably quieter.

I was kind of getting this impression. :search:

The Tanabe medallion seems like the best solution other than that the Apexi Tail Silencer seems like the most cost effective solution.

supraspanner are you looking to change your exhaust? If you are how much would you want for it?

Nic where can I get one of these Apexi Active Tail Silencers than you, I know this is a bit chhecky but is there any UK suppliers as I know ordering from you would take a while. :taped:

Thanks. :)

Okay Have to really sort this out now and I have narrowed it to two options.

1. HKS Silent Hi Power with the Apexi Active Tail Silencer, due to this exhaust being specifically designed for the NA.

OR

2. Tanabe Touring Medallion which is not designed for the NA supra.

Fully decatted need to quieten exhaust.

What do I do? Any suggestions?

Will be placing order on monday, so any help much apprecited.

Thanks :)

hi

I got NA too, is the below exhaust any good? I'm thinking about changing my stock exhaust

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Blitz-Nur-Spec-R-Toyota-Supra-JZA80-2JZ-GE-NA_W0QQitemZ110260742253QQihZ001QQcategoryZ38786QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

thanks in advance

They are VERY loud on an NA, especially if decatted. The clearance isn't too good, but they do make a nice sound ;)

Whether it s a 'good exhaust' depends how long your neighbours are willing to put up with it and how many high rise speed bumps are in your area ;)

I got a nur on my na and it sounds great, although I do usually have the baffle in it ;) I use to use the car every morning at 2am, hence why I left the baffle in :)

Are you fully decatted? And how loud is it on start up? My main problem is starting my custom exhaust in the morning which is at 2K RPM and it is way too loud! Have to make a quick getaway. :innocent:

No i've still got my cats installed, although I do have one of Nic's manifolds sitting in the box next to me ;) Yeah it is rather loud on start up :) I use to make quick get aways in the early hours too... Never had a complaint though! I was doing that for over a year aswell :) Like i said I had the baffle in!

Wait till you put the manifold on and if you take the second cat out your ears will be bleeding, when I start my car in the morning its like a jet has landed!

Your lucky you haven't had a complaint I better change my exhaust quick before I literally take off. ;)

Oh and if you have second thoughts about the manifold, Im right here :D
