View Full Version : fitting 4 point race harnesses? need help.
in the mr2 there is the only option to fit through the fire wall
with stress plates which is fine for the back.
now the original seatbelt will go, and i can pickup from this fitting for the lap belt part, however it is just a male thread sticking out
as is the opposite side.
this means i cannot fit the traditional eye bolt here for the belt fixings,
so my question, is there anything on the market like an eye fixing, but can be threaded onto an existing thread on the car.
or do i need to look at having something welded into the car that it can pickup from?
thanks
si

2 things, shoulder belts on race multi point harnesses should slope down from your shoulders to a point much lower than them, to keep them taught in a rollover. You can buy metric threaded machine lifting eyes with either male or female threads from any decent engineers merchant. If the eye thickness is too great to get the belt clips over you can drill the ID bigger. If the male stud thread is metric fine you can buy a smaller female threaded lifting eye and drill out and re tap. Seat belt threads, even on Jap cars, are often UNF though, so try a known nut on the studs before assuming anything. HTH.
any links or pics chris, thanks
You can buy threaded eye bolt plates that you weld to the car. Demon tweeks sell these, they have some that are FIA compliant if you need that and some that aren't.

You can even get lifting eyes in stainless, and that's news to me.

that exactly what i was after chris, thanks.
are these up to scratch for harness or do i need a certain grade etc
I may be dreaming but I seem to recall some kind of harness bar that ran along the bottom of the rear window and mounted where the coat hooks normally are behind each seat and onto the seat belt mounts. I know some people who just used the hook points to fasten an eye to but I'm not too convinced how good that would be without load spreading plates in the engine bay.

thanks mic,
surely thats a bit high mounted? chris was saying the mounting points should slope down below shoulder height.
+ i have a 6 point cage still to be welded in the car yet, a rogue one, so will fit to the bulk head

I'd agree, too high but open to sensible modification to drop some more mounts down from it perhaps?

would anyone advise on the above sabelt harness, ive looked around
this one looks to have quite small fixing holes and not eye fixings,
what you recon chris, or should i buy saloon type harness and just leave excess harness on the shoulder part
i have ordered the harness and a load of eylets.
but one problem is i cant get a lifting eye bolt which has the toyota thread on it?
i believe its metric fine?
should i fit the harness as below?
