BigMoistyturbo

Hiya just bought my first supra. It's a L reg UK spec twinturbo auto in silver with 52k on the clock and FTSH.
Basically I need advice on things to look out for and places to get parts/mods from.
Oh and to introduce myself my names Rob, I'm 21 and from Boston Lincolnshire, so hello everyone!

Seb
14-12-03, 23:43
Hey Rob, welcome aboard, and may I congratulate you on your choice of car (and version :innocent: ) Don't listen to anyone who uses the words 'lardy' and 'uk' in the same sentence. And trust me, there will be plenty... :) Hello and welcome!

Seb

I haven't even driven one yet! I ordered it through work (toyota) from there auto find system. I'm well excited, will be here in 3-6 days!:flame Dev
I currently am running an mr2 turbo until it turns up.
What's the rated bhp of a UK spec and is it different to the jap one?

Ah handle is name, furry muff.
Well my handle is bigmoisty because of a certain reputation I have, which I couldn't divulge on here.
And the turbo bit...well because I've run quite a few turbo's!

Rob, to answer all your Soop based Qs, simply look for any post that has a reply from 200SX Boy (Dave), his sig is something along the lines of the most useful sig in the whole world ever. At least when it comes to Soops.

Like I said before it's due to turn up in a few days. I've not physically seen it yet.
To cut a long story short I'm a car sales exec for toyota.
I saw this on the toyota national search system and rung the dealer. He described it to me and I had to "buy blind". I get to refuse the car if it's fucked.
It's totally stock. Silver with 53k on the clock and full toyota service history..and I bought it for trade price! woo hoo!

Welcome aboard and congratulations on joining the small group of elite UK Supra owners, believe me you'll start to feel really special soon when you realise how rare we are compared to thise J-Spec clones with their budget versions :D

Ah so that's why Toyota have been sending me emails pretending to have a car available! I registered for the finder service about a year ago and they have only started writing in the past week.

So another MR2 Turbo convert eh, are you on any of the other mailing lists? MR2DC IMOC-UK MR2OC etc?

BigMoistyturbo
15-12-03, 14:56
I can indeed do some cheaper parts.
My car has fallen through thou!!!
So anyone looking to sell me a twin turbo for £8000-£11000 should contact me asap before I buy one from auto-trader!

P.s I need to flog my mr2 turbo if anyone knows anyone who wants one for £2500 with 85k on the clock!

Hi and welcome, read the spec sheets for UK cars and Jap cars. the UK and USA cars are far superior compared to the Jap ones, bigger injectors, bigger turbo's, diff cooler, more bhp etc etc i could go on for ages.......but you have a great car mate. Enjoy

Barney
15-12-03, 16:15
I was very lucky to find a UK TT at that price as most of them were around £12,000 at the time, the dealer I bought it from didn't really know what he had, believe you me it was the quickest 130 miles I have ever done to get to the car first!!

How do you get on for insurance?

Just so your aware, inferior J spec cars cost a LOT more to insure than UK cars.

Finding a good UK spec especially a manual at your price range will be a difficult job though, Only 623 (total auto and manual) ever sold, so very exclusive.

Also if you get a UK spec you wont spen months in the wanted section looking to buy bits from one like resistor pack, injectors, leather interior, active front spoiler ect.

I think your comments are very generalised and biased.

A jspec only costs around anopther 400 quid to insure. But your forgetting that a UK spec car costs 1-2k more to buy!

And then they are usually high mileage or clocked.

J-Spec cars are generally in better condition with lower mileage and more aftermarket kit.

And dont forget they are quicker off the mark too!!

:p :p :p :p :flame Dev

My car has an active spoiler, 7 speaker stereo, and leather interior as standard from Japan.

You dont need the resistor pack and injectors unless you are planning to more than 1.2 Bar boost (which is achievable for half the cost of a UK spec).

You could eat your dinner of my engine bay as well, and my insurance is only £630 fully comp with Tesco's (I'm 24).:)

Your all just jealous that you ended up paying more money for a car that doesn't go as fast, weighs more and is gei.:p

Aerotop Dave

I've never done a quote for a UK car, but I'm only paying £470 for my J Spec (33 years old).

Has anyone ever actually done like-for-like insurance quotes on J-Spec v UK car (with all insurance-related details exactly the same)

JohnK
18-12-03, 18:03
I did when I was looking for a Supe, most companys wanted almost double the UK quote, and being under 30 doesnt help at all for import insurance, as all the companys that aparently give people good quotes wouldnt quote me unless I was over 30!
