Cleaning plastic lights???

My plastic lights are going that horrible yellow colour...I want them as new looking & clear as poss

Whats the best stuff to use and do I need to take the lights off and do the inside as well as outside???

I have a go last week with the following results, not bad for an hours work IMO

Just doing the outside should take away some of the yellow, but to get them perfectly clear you'll probably have to take them apart and clean the inside too - there's a few topics on how to do this.

Meguiars PlastX is quite good, although wet and dry works a treat too if you want to take it that far.

Or you can use T-cut. I did this on my old n/a and the amount of yellow stuff which come off in the cloth, was amazing!

Works a treat on rear lights and indicators too.

Yup Meguiars PlastX is good, and if you cant find any, the Meguiars Plastic Cleaner / Polish for motorcycles is just as good.

Ive not used T Cut myself, but I have used toothpaste and newspaper, which is a cheap alternative that works quite well.

I kept the polish wet though with plenty of water to prevent it going dry and 'scratching' the surface, especially in this weather

If you use a piece of old towel or something with some texture to rub it into the plastic and a soft microfibre cloth to bring it up. You'll need a few applications until the cloth your applying it with comes away clean.....and some Ralgex for your sprained wrist afterwards!! You need to keep doing it regularly to stay on top of it, so to speak

Well I just popped down to Halfords and they had no PlastX, turtle wax or autosol!

I asked them for something similar and came away with caravan plastic window abrasive.

It would have done the job IMO

Yeh it sounds about right, I will give it a go.

I just thought it was quite funny, that they had stopped stocking those three but had plenty of caravan plastic window abrasive.

I have used Autosoul in the past to get yellowing out of lights and its worked a treat.

This happend on a crysler neon my mum had they failed the mot on the lights because they had gone a greeny yellow?! Halfords cutting paste work great its only 3.99 and you can use it for gettin scratches out of paint work or cleaning up aluminium bits, glass scratches loads of stuff. but be careful you can go to far with it on paint work.

I've just used PlastX on my headlights! well recommenced!

Just tried STP Tuff Stuff, it's a sray on foam. 2 applications and a bit of a scrub with an insect removal sponge and a good rinse off left a pretty good result. Tin says safe on paint too but I didn't risk letting it dry to find out. Not 100% job but only took 2 mins and the imrovement was very noticable. Worth a punt.
