Oh Bother!

Since we are a bit to PC these days;) alternative title being (insert expletive!)

Anyway i took the Supra out for a bit of a play on Wednesday evening, found a bike to play with so it had a bit of a ragging, but still no rev limits or more than 1.2, but when i got back and it sat on idle for a few minutes, it was smoking:( first thought was valve stem oil seals, so last night i started it from cold, no smoke until hot, which leads me to surmise its turbo seals, since closing my Apexi exhaust valve lessens/stops the smoke.

This morning i checked the throttle body for oil, completely absent, i also ran a compression test, perfect all around 200PSI,

so i now need to check it on the road and observe.

Now the kicker is the UK hybrids i had built only just over a year ago, have only done no more than 2,000 mls!

so once i have confirmed that its the seals, i will contact the company and see if they are prepared to help,

if not i will name and shame!

I have two pairs of J specs, but they all have very slight chips on the ceramic turbines, has anyone run J specs with slight chips?

Just been out and got a mate to follow me, its smoking mostly on the overrun and at junctions and on idle when hot, so I'm pretty sure its the exhaust side turbo seals that are starting to leak:(

Not good considering they where only built 2,000 mls ago, will now have to contact the company and ask if they are prepared to do anything about it, as i can't afford to get them rebuilt again and despite being just out of the years warranty period, the 2,000 factor is a joke, and very worrying! its not like the car gets abused, the oil is changed on a regular basis, its never over reved, and the turbos have never been over 1.2 bar, just what i don't need for the start of the summer:(

Id say turbo, exactly the same symptoms as mine when it went. As for chipped turbine blades, I wouldnt because of the balance issue. They spin at what, 80,000+ so any damage is gonna be magnified at speed. Saying that though they obviously ran fine before they were removed...

As for help with repairs I reckon they'll tell you to poke it, its been more than a year despite the low mileage. I hope you do get some assistance though :)

put the 2nd cat back in. This will increase the back pressure and hopefully stem the smoking if it isnt too bad.

On standard turbo's people often find when they go BPU they get smoking on overrun, this is because of the pressure on the exhaust side of the turbo is less, meaning a little oil is getting through due to the seals being worn.

Put in cat 2 and see how you go, of course you'll run a little hotter so either duct the intercooler or turn boost down apart from when having a play. Hope that helps
