I'm getting tyres with the following specs:

Front: 235/40/18

Rear: 265/35/18

235mm=9.25in 265mm=10.4in

So should I get rims with the following specs?

Front: 18x9.5

Rear: 18x10.5

So your buying the wheels to match your tires most people do it the other way around.

Dont take this to the bank in the slighest but i always thought that if a tyre was going to be a different width to hte rim then it would be wider than, not the other way round?

Oh and with those dimensions the tires would be quite stretched.

I though you'd want the rim wider so the tire stretches over rather than being loose.

Yep, unless your going for the drag style with tires stretched to the max.

i run 275/18/35 on a 9.5" wheel. and 245/18/40 on a 8.5" wheel. Normall you would buy the wheel, the get tyres to fit the wheel, not the other way around!

9.5" front rim is quite wide really. Stock wheels are 8" front and 9.5 rear !

9.5" wheels would fit 265's perfect and 8.5's for the 235's

Well mine are 9.5 front and 12 rear!!

I have 265/35/18 on the rears and 235/40/18 on the front i have got the lexus 10" rears and they are perfect...did fit 285 but it rubbed so they had to go... getting the arches rolled was a no no for me, imo.

Just did a quick search and found this:

Depending on offsets you can get much wider under the stock arches if you wish.

F 18x8.5 & R 18x9.5

or

F 18x9.0 & R 18x10

Well mine are 9.5 front and 12 rear!!

Size isn't everything.... (will save the speech on wide wheels)

but from speaking to some other people, they said 18x8 so why 8.5?

I bought the tyres thinking I knew what rims I wanted and found out that the rims were a bad match for the tyre, so came here for advice...

I use the following and have had no problems at all, looks fine aswel:-

8x18 front with 235/40/18 tyres

9x18 rear with 265/35/18 tyres
