View Full Version : Clifford Alarm Problems - anyone got any ideas?

Hey All,

Not really Supra specific, so I put it in off topic but if it's wrong feel free to move it ;)

Alarm: Clifford Concept 600.

I'm having some issues with the above alarm that is fitted to my car.

It randomly seems to stop "chirping" when I lock/unlock the car. When I first purchased the car, it was silent with just the flashes of indicators. However, when I disconnected and reconnected the -ve terminal on the battery (when in valet mode) the chirps came back.

I changed the settings via the cliffnet wizard to a soft chirp which worked fine. Then, one day when cleaning the car (valet mode on) after disabling valet mode and locking the car the chirps stopped again!?!?!

I must also point out that this does not stop the alarm working at all - the siren sounds when it should.

I don't really want to disconnect the battery again as I like to keep my trip counters, and obviously when i fit my stereo I don't want to keep losing the settings.

So has this happened to anyone, or does anyone have any ideas? I'm going to email Clifford anyway, and I may have to get the alarm serviced or something, but thought I'd try my luck here first just in case there is an answer :)

Cheers
Paul

I think I may have found the problem.

According to the manual:

Automatic low battery warning: If at any time the sirens back-up battery voltage is very low, the usual arm and disarm chirps will be automatically muted to alert you of the problem. Once the backup battery is properly charged, the chirps will automatically be restored.

So - now I need to find out if changing the backup battery is something I can do, or if Clifford need to do it. The alarm has been on the car for 8+ years, so chances are the battery is knackered.

If anyone has changed theirs, or had it done - please let me know!

Yep - would seem this is a common problem indeed after googling about backup batteries!

Found someone on ebay selling a backup battery kit for £12.50 odd, but read that it is just a normal battery available at Maplins. I am trying to find some instructions and battery type - so if anyone can help here it would be greatly appreciated.

I've got this problem on my Integrale. Unlocking the doors from the remote has also stopped working, although locking seems fine. All cables carry voltage, so I know it's not that.

 thanks ;)

Ebay batteries are not genuine Clifford parts, so suspect they are batteries he's bought somewhere cheap, and sells them for a profit including a page of instructions.

It seems the battery is 6 AA cells (from googling) and is in the main siren unit itself. I'm not 100% sure this is accurate, so may just go with the ebay jobby unless I find some more concrete answers.

Everything else seems to work fine, I just think I want to adjust the proximity sensor at some point, as it's not very sensitive at all.

Well I'm going to do a "how-to" on this, as I've fixed my problems.

Basically, get a battery pack, and it's a straight swap. So long as you're a bit handy with a screwdriver and a soldering iron, should only take you about 15-20 mins.

Give me a min and I'll do a bit of a write-up.

There you go - still waiting to get more photos to finish off the guide properly, but you should get the idea.
