View Full Version : Fueling Issues on a Newly decatted uk spec?

Hey,

Ive just recenly got a full decat on my UK Spec TT, it seems like it was running spot on but when i booted it the other day i got a pop from the exhaust, trying to read up on this i read about fueling issues or maybe fuel pump on its way out?. Now am i worrying to much or could there be a problem somewhere? ive yet to fit my trl vfcc as well if it makes a difference?:search:

I expect you mean Decatted not dedicated?!

Did you replace fuel pump at same time? New UK pump would be a wise move depending on age and mileage.

ah bugger, ye its supposed to say decatted, the pump hasnt been replaced no, its got 56k on the clock?

What boost levels are you seeing when it's showing lean?
What is the AFR reading and what RPM is this happening at?

i dont know i dont have any guages or anything its just a standard uk spec with full exhaust no other mods, it dosent happen all the time its only did it once in the last few days? jus didnt know if its anything to worry about

How do you know it's running lean? A pop from the exhuast on lift off is normally a sign of running rich (i.e. unburnt fuel getting into a hot exhaust. My Jspec used to do this occasionally too.

One thing you MUST do is get a boost gauge. You *should* be okay with the UK as the wastegate can control boost better, but it's a risky approach to start increasing boost without any way to check it.

thats just it i dont know, nothing to worry about then if its just a bit rich? i dont intend to up the bost or anything yet, i know it will have changed a bit with decat but not enough to do damage? and im looking into standalone boost guages that dont cost loads,

If the only sign is a pop from the exhaust on lift off then I wouldn't worry about it. You can get a decent electronic boost gauge for not too much if you show around. It's best to get one with a peak hold function, warning function is nice to have too...

ok thanks for the info, http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm-low/BLITZ-BLM-Racing-Meter-Boost-Gauge-29619 its about £93 for that or dunno if its just worth spending a bit more and get a Aem Tru boost guage/ controller

Blitz stuff is usually good, but I don't know a very much about gauges.

Probably best to have a search and see what others have recommended.

I quite often get a pop when going back on the throttle after a spirited drive, electronic throttle enrichment is a bit over enthusiastic on the Supra IMO.

The slightest air leak into the exhaust, particularly near the front, will cause this. Cover the tailpipe with a wet towel, with the engine idling and have someone listen for the slightest blow anywhere. Pressed on hard the towel should stop the engine.
