Think we should have one down south a bit more. then lots of people would not have to use the M25. only a suggestion but what about Bournemouth? Brighton? Porstmouth?

I'm down for where ever.

Count me in

(Lazy)I say Bluewater(/right next door)

Pencil me in - it's a mate's birthday the day before...

Timwildman
07-12-03, 17:05
Further down south, but that doesn't help people from with in the M25 or a bit up north. while I love driving loads of miles means we need to leave extra time to get home..

Somewhere near pompey would be good, Bournemouth even better but i'm not sure many would go that far..

I dont mind going anywhere with in the M3, M25, M23/A23 area.

Matt Harwood
07-12-03, 17:15
Stop doing Saturdays!!! :baa:

It could always be at my place on a Sunday. Nice big empty industrial estate area. 10 minutes from the M20...

Faye
07-12-03, 18:36
Not sure about this one, I'm hoping to have a damn good hangover as its my birthday on the 9th.

Supragal
08-12-03, 08:51
Faye- 2pm the day after-chasing the hare?? :D

Matt H- We could do Sunday... Peeps? Is Sunday preferred?
Don't remember seeing any pubs near your place Matt? You'd be busy making us all cups of tea lol ;)

Millhouse- could go for somewhere down the m3 your way- Make some suggestions!!

Faye
08-12-03, 09:19
Saturday would be a no go for me fullstop, Sunday would be fine, but don't change the day for me.

mawby
08-12-03, 09:26
I should be able to make this, either day good for me. Obviously the closer South the better for me, but as I don't have a service due for a least a month I've got no objections to driving further up country - we always get a good convoy going from down here anyway!

Supragal
08-12-03, 09:58
Ok, lets do a Sunday....we can try every day of the week lol

Can we get that changed in the thread title please?

Keith C
08-12-03, 10:00
Done.

Ugh. There should be laws against Monday mornings.

Faye

I'll probably be up for this if it stays as Sunday (so as not to clash with the Berkhamstead meet on the Saturday 10th).

Yeah, I think we'll go for the Sunday. Less people rushing off to go out drinking and stuff.

SO, we agreed to take it a little further south this time? :innocent: We need good pubs with big car parks :)

I can take out my pencilling if it's on the Sunday now :)

Sunday... pubs further South.... actually being open.... now there's a task! :D

Whitesupraboy2
08-12-03, 12:37
put me down as maybe. a maybe due to 'maybe' changing jobs and of course my xmas spending, but ill put £50 a side i think. ;) So not sure but i may have to cover one weekend a month in new job. Southampton sounds a good place for a meet. As can do a convoy and with so many people from southampton means no one will get seperated. I dont know about Big pubs around there though?!?!?

pulse
08-12-03, 12:46
I'll put myself down as more of a maybe. I may have to move house that weekend, which I forgot all about.. and I really should get along to the Berkhamstead meet, though that won't take all day like a proper south one will :)

oxygene
08-12-03, 13:03
I should b able 2 come along as well, just gotta get my car back from Abbey Motorsport.

How about Brighton?

Had a couple of good meets parking down by the Seafront. Not great for pubs, but plenty of space and good views, if it is not raining!!

Phil.

The first one ended up in Brighton so we're trying to make it more fair by moving about each time... Theres always a lot of support from peeps Southampton way so we should make an effort too I reckon....?

Ben..

You are the scum of the south coast ;) - just glad I was there last Tuesday night, looking like the treble over you could be on the cards :D

On that note, I had this sent to me today which really made me LOL

"Subject: Decision of a Crown Court (Family Division) case in Portsmouth....

A seven year old boy was at the centre of a courtroom drama this morning when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge awarded custody to his aunt. The boy wailed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and refused to live with her. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents the boy cried out that they beat him more than anyone.

In a dramatic move, the judge allowed the boy to choose who should have custody of him.

Custody was granted to Portsmouth Football Club, as the boy firmly believes that they are not capable of beating anyone."

:D:D

Pencil me in please, if it's Southampton then there should be a fair few from round these parts that can make it, although I'm not fussed about where it's held. :)

Just sent it round by email, although I had to change it to Tottenham so as to make it more realistic!!

Leeds were my second choice.

Someones just posted this on the Ultimate Japanese Car Club...
just wondering if there was anyone in the portsmouth, southampton or surrounding area wanted to meet up for a beer and chat soonish. We could...
Ignore it
Tell them about the whole event and see how many cars we can get along.
Tell them about the destination point so we all meet, chat, take photos etc and then drive in convoy to where they'll all be.
Although maybe the Portsmouth/Southampton lot need to come up with some suggestions as to where to meet first... D'oh, that would include me! :D

Supragal
10-12-03, 12:14
Point them at the thread, why not!! Can't imagine anyone having any problem with this? Be nice to see some other 'bling' cars... Might open it up to TOC if everyones cool with a mixed meet?

Places to meet please guys!! Convoy sounding good....

Whitesupraboy2
10-12-03, 12:21
A mixed meet sounds good to me. Alot more cars and some nice ones are on TOC.....

4 supras for convoy from Bmth now. got to get that red veilside involved! im gonna hunt him down!

I reckon the meet should be at southampton it a good central point although do need Southampton boys to come up wit a meet place....

Yeah, although not a Southampton lad i was thinking about the car park next to Ikon & Beaver (Diva) or the quay itself. ther is a pub/thing there called Los Marinos and a few parking spaces.

Could meet there before shooting off to wherever ele it is we are going?

A mixed meet sounds good to me!

Oooh hello Mr Newbie! Welcome to the board. I take it you have a Soop then? If so, you should put a seperate post up with some pics and stuff so that we can see your P&J (no jokes please);)

You missed the Bournemouth meet a couple of months back, we got about 16 or so Soops out then and was a good meet.

Hope to see you soon.:( (I'm not gei;) )

Just been back to this thread, completely forgot about it.

Ok, Southampton....places to meet....hmmmm

West Quay, by this date, should have calmed down by then - the carpark round the back of Ikon and Diva shouldn't be that full, there's also a pub [Quayside] which probably wont be that busy either.....the only trouble is that if we goto the pub, you wont be able to see the cars as they'll be out of sight.

Could always park in the Grosvenor Casino carpark, that's right opposite the pub :)

Faye
19-12-03, 10:04
Can we go to the casino? I like a nice gamble.:D

Jive

PS - it's not the best casino in town!

So what about Pompy then? And are we still meeting at one and convoying to the other?

Is that in terms of payouts or just plain nasty?

Jive
19-12-03, 11:49
Just my own opinion. It's very open, with a really high ceiling, probably about 30ft high, maybe higher.....the one I like going to is alot more "cosy" and the atmosphere is much better.

Another thing is poker, they have a 5 card stud poker table there BUT the croupier doesn't do any shuffling of the pack, just sticks it in a machine and lets it do it's thing, it also deals for them and I just don't find this very amusing, especially when your alot of money down :(

But it's a casino and casinos are there to make money, so they took mine and then a little while later I took theirs and walked out :)

Errr....I'm rambling so I'll shut up now :)

haha I'll have to take your word on that Steve! ( the gei bit). Cheers for the warm welcome. Looking forward to the meet. Im hoping and praying (fingers x) that my supra will be ready in time. Im having the Bomex front nose fitted at the mo and a complete respray after a bit of accident! Also when it was in the compound awaiting repair it got broken into. The little bastards smashed my back windscreen damaging my spoiler and scratching the quarters. Once in they had my stereo away completely wrecking my dash and centre console! What I would of done 2 get my hands on them! ... When it's done I'll put a pic up

Yeh behind Ikon's quite easy to find, but the only thing that might be a problem is there's a few speed bumps on your way into the car park. I've seen a few locals bottom out there. It might be alright, but its definetly worth pointing out!

JamesArup
23-12-03, 19:21
Been totally vacant and missed all this!

I'm up for it though .. bunking off work for 3 weeks after Crimbo anyway! I used to go to Uni in S'oton and I reckon the Ikon/Diva carpark would be cool. Either that or by Staples etc with a readily accessible McDonalds (although I do hate the wretched place!)

The McDonalds I am talking about is the one in the retail park with Staples, Toys 'r' Us etc ... Unless it has been bulldozed by now! I'm trying to think of any nice parks in the area with big car parks ..... but I only seem to be able to remember pub locations for some reason! LOL  :p

Sorry guys comp didnt resfresh page...anyway I was thinking the same as above(quoted). There's a Maccy D's opposite Leisure World (west quay). If you drive towards Maccy D's as if your going in your come 2 a roundabout. Just turn into the car park opposite. Allied Carpets is the way forward!;)

JamesArup
23-12-03, 20:09
If I remember rightly it might have some of those very shallow speed bumps, more like 'raised tables', but they shouldn't be an issue for anyone ... certainly nothing like the mountains on the way into IKON!!

Geoff- thanks mate

Supragal ... I'll be going via M3 J3, so we can always convoy down with anyone else in the area? I think I know where I am going! :conf:

Basically .... On at M3 J3 and keep going ALL the way to J14. Off at 14, straight over the roundabout and onto 'The Avenue'. Go down there for a few miles and you then hit a big 'oval' roundabout where you want to head down 'London Road' (2nd or 3rd Exit maybe?). Turn right at the lights at the end of 'London Road' and follow the road round. At the 3rd set of lights (big ones - you should see 'The Marlands' center ahead), you want to turn right (down the hill) where you should see 'Toys 'R' Us' ahead of you. Turn left into the road just before 'Toys 'R' Us, and right at the next lights (past the coach station). You will see the big retail park with Allied Carpets, JJB, Staples ahead. Just turn right at the mini roundabout and follow the road up to the roundabout outside McDonalds. Turn left there and into the Staples car park ..... Simple as that :p :p . Nah ... it's pretty easy really.

Although I haven't been down there for a few months, so I may have missed something important .... but I'm sure anyone local will point that out!

Cheers, J

when comin from bournemouth was thinking.... M27 onto M271 then follow signs for town centre (along that long 50mph road wit cameras on it) until see west quay signs follow signs for west quay, goin past giant hotel on right on a roundabout that has a bricked bit round the roundabout (all i remember) and just before arriving at west quay turn left into shopping place wit mc d'ys on left wit allied on right etc... and turn right into car park... a map would help me! as cant remember it all correctly!!!

A map of the basics of how to get there based upon the directions given above can be found here. (http://www.lee-mawby.net/mkivsupra.jpg) M3 route is in orange, M271 is in green. Please note there are several speed cameras along the routes once you leave the motorways, so be careful.

In addition to JamesArup directions, the road 'The Avenue' actually starts as 'Bassett Avenue' and then turns into 'The Avenue'. Both roads are also refered to as the A33.

Hope this helps.

Just one point if we are having it in Allied car park @ 2pm the store will surely be open and cars in the car park, not knowing the area this is only presumption - or is the car park really really big ? :innocent:

The car park is really big, will hold approx 1000 cars I suppose.

:D

Jive
24-12-03, 10:01
I'm gonna add Jamin in as he's only just down the road and if he can't make it then he can take himself off :)

I'd say directionwise, anyone coming down the M3 would be better going onto the M27 and coming off at Jnctn 3 M271, it's much easier and alot less likely to get lost.

Unless JamesArup is leading the convoy down the Avenue :)

I was going to suggest that, but as I haven't been the Avenue route in years now I wasn't sure if it had been made any easier to navigate. The M271 route is longer, but a lot more obvious as to where you are going. I'm comming from the Portsmouth direction and I'll be taking the M271 route.

Jive
24-12-03, 10:44
Well the Avenue way is ok - but seeing as I usually get lost going down the M3 and trying to get onto the Avenue .......

The M271 and Millbrook road way is alot easier I must say, still we've got another 15 or more days to decide or for people to choose :)

Where everybodys meeting is 1 big car park but sectioned. Inbetween each section is a mini speed hump. Just a suggestion but if your car can handle humps with ease it might be a idea to go over the hump and leave the spaces out allied carpets free for the low low rides.
Also to avoid more humps on your way to the meet, access Allied Carpets from West Quay Rd (leisure World side) and NOT (Toys r us side)
All sounds a bit :banghead: but its not that bad really!
Honest :p

Sure, I can do that (although I don't have any hands-free kit, so I need to be a bit careful). Aren't there some new(ish) services down near J10/11 now (maybe further on?) - I seem to remember some that were near completion about 3 years ago?

We could all meet up there at 1.15-1.30 maybe and take it from there? If we bump into each other on the way there on the M3, then that will be an added bonus!

Cheers, J

That will be just before winchester but don't get your fuel there its mega expensive. The next junction along where the A34 comes on has a big tesco's with a garage at it use that instead. Its got a hugely long re-entry slip road with two lanes as well- ideal for burning each other up on (not that I advocate that sort of thing lol).

29-12-03, 00:26

Down the M4 onto the A34 @ Chieveley follow that down to M3 and pick up the lads from the Winchester services at that junction, its only about 3-5 miles to that junction. If you sit in tesco's garage get them to text you when they set off from Winchester services by the time you get onto the M3 through the r-bout lights you wont have to drive too slow for them to catch you.

It keeps getting bigger  . I think there is also a contingent coming over from the Isle of Wight performance car club - including the new owner of my old car  . Maybe someone should bring some planks of wood incase we outgrow the carpark and need to get over the speedbumps into IKON? :D :D

Cheers, J

Awww.....you guys :)

I do want to come down for one of the southern meets when I get my car - I just have trouble justifying the cash for a long trip like that in a day or weekend or whatever.

If I could get some pople up here I could problably arrange a day at oulton park or something...

Anyway, back to your thread :)

On a serious note, anyone getting their early should try to 'strategically' park to take up more than one space if it looks like it's going to get busy. That way we can shuffle around to let people in if we need to.

On another note, anyone on here coming down from the Swindon area? The West representative for the gtroc club would like to arrange a meet point and convoy down if there is.

Holy mother of meets, last time I looked at this thread there were about 25 cars, phew this is gonna be great.

Re the car park, went through there on Saturday and it was extremely busy - I'm not sure what it'll be like on Sunday, like Supragal said, hopefully the shopping frenzy will be over by then :)

Edited to add Paul_y3k in.

Just incase we need to move over there as there should be loads of room there?

I'm just going to print my name off on a piece of A4 and stick it on my dash I think - that should do the job :D

Cheers, J

The speed bumps / ramps in the Leisure World on the way in are / will be ok, it's the ones on the right carpark, opposite the entrance to Leisure World that will be a problem.

I'll take a trip in there either tonight or tomorrow and check out whether there are any down near Ikon / Diva, although from memory I don't think there are any there that will cause a problem.

I did a mass post to all the forums I'm aware off yesterday, so people should be aware of this event now. I was intending a final mass post on Thursday/Friday including the intended pre-meet meets/convoys if the details are finalised in time.

I too can't get signed up to 300zx, well I can but I can't activate my account as I never got the activation e-mail. I tried e-mailing them last week about it but have had no reply.

I'm going to post to the Rx-7 club as well as I've noticed one of their members has mentioned it on there. I'm now a member of about 20 japanese car fourms!

No thanks needed, I enjoy organising/helping to organise meets as we always get such a good response from the club. All I hope is that parking isn't a problem. :(

Whitesupraboy2
05-01-04, 15:16
agree on the parking. I suggest we all park at back away from the shops and that if there is big clump of spaces most cars start by taking 2 spaces that way when more arrive can squeeze them in.

Looks like that is your southampton boys job ;)

05-01-04, 16:13

I'm with Mawby on this one, don't mind organising stuff :)

I'm really concerned about the parking, think about the ear bashing we got on the gumball at DFS lol someone better do some shopping while we're there! (And I don't mean from Paul E's boot, which we all know will be overflowing with bling!!)

Yeah, get some RX7-s down there, that's be excellent! I'll mention it to the guy at work who's got one (or two) but I dunno if it's really his thing...

blackmax

Whitesupraboy2
05-01-04, 18:21
blackmax - it good mate, i may be young still but everyone enjoys it looking at proper cars! though u got to watch for these old timers they like to stick to 100 leptons up the motorway, gave me a shock the first time! was expecting 50 leptons lol

Supragal - if we get stuffed on car parking, about 6 supras can stay parked there for bit and tell everyone to go behind Ikon as like mawby and everyone says there will be space there!!

Just wait for Jive to get back on speed Bump status over there!

mawby
05-01-04, 20:52
At this rate I can see the Ikon carpark being a definite regardless of the speed bumps. Maybe the planks of wood idea isn't so bad for getting the low cars over them.
