Saturday the *10th* of January, 1pm, Old Mill pub, Berkhamstead

-----------------------------------------------

Okay guys, it's been discussed a thousand times by people who live in these areas of having a meet somewhere nearby.

I reckon we should sort one out

We can sort out dates/places here (already suggestions for the Old Mill pub in Hemel), add your name to the list if interested :)

It's about time we had a decent meet around here instead of me having to drive down south all the time :D

patrick cashpoint stu mfs nicksupra67... ? :) Loads of us have discussed it, let's get to it.

Oops! Berkhamstead, Hemel, same thing from here, straight down the A41 :D:flame Dev

Agreed that sometime in the new year is the best way to go.

I'd be up for it. Old mill (that the place next to the texeco garage) would be good lots of parking.

Amazing! There are other people in the area with stunning cars!!!! I work in Berko and live in Hemel!!!! Definitely up for meeting - Old Mill would be great. I have a stunning black twinturbo with freshly tinted windows, furious green neons, 19"alloys and various other boys toys thanks to Mid-life-crisis who I bought my batmobile off (after forcing him to sell it!). I got a bit carried away when I first bought it as I realised when I succeeded in play Chase Me with the cops down the M6 - didn't realise they were behind me til they put their disco lights on!! Luckily no ban as they appreciate the beauty of the batmobile and that I had to test the speed. Still gave me 3 brownie points though :(
Any date set up yet?

Stu
06-12-03, 15:02
No fixed date but second weekend in January has been mentioned..

cashpoint
06-12-03, 20:12
well if we do a cruise after batgirls car is easy to follow as i've followed midlife in the dark and could see him 1/2 mile down the road thanks to the neons:) So batgirl are you coming to Hatfield Sunday?

cashpoint

If it's the first friday in Feb I could make it, I'll be in oxford sitting exams in the morning. So will need to let off steam after..

pulse
06-12-03, 20:52
I'd say it'll probably be around the 11th or 18th of January?

How about we fix a date.. let's say Saturday the 11th, at the Old Mill pub in Berkhamstead? Any issues with this date anybody?

Mfs, nicksupra67, mark kindell? .. + plenty of others around this area, let's see some more names :)

Batgirl
07-12-03, 15:12
What's that about Hatfield Sunday - if it was this Sunday - I am stranded with a cracked rad and no bottom pulley!!!! So much for a fast and furious Sunday cruise!!! So are we decided on a weekend in January yet at the Old Mill? I can make any weekend except the 24th-25 and first weekend in Feb as I'm away at music industry event in sunny south of france (would have been nice to drive down there but have been told I have to take a plane

Stu
07-12-03, 15:18
Look above ya..:innocent: thats the date for it..

Batgirl
07-12-03, 15:42
As long as it's not too early anytime should be ok for me. 1pm? 2pm? Are we having Sunday lunch then :) - complete virgin of the Supe meeting formalities as I haven't been to any before! Bovingdon airfield would be good place to meet up one day!! not on market days though!

CJ
07-12-03, 23:52
Are we talking Saturday 10th or Sunday 11th?

pulse
08-12-03, 01:26
Err, oops! Sorry, I err.. didn't put the year forward when I checked January's dates :)

Okay, how about Saturday the *10th* of January, 1pm, Old Mill pub, Berkhamstead?

Thanks CJ :) Dunno about food etc. In the meets I've been to, people who have wanted to eat end up having something. Any opinions?

CJ

Seeing as it is a Saturday, I am now a defo (albeit with a 12 year old son in tow - if that is OK?). As for food etc. I will go with the flow.

I might be able to make it, but at 100 miles away the weather's going to have to be good if I do. Anyway, just for those not familiar with the area can you confirm this is the pub...

Patrick: Not a bad idea.. does anybody go there regularly that could have a word? Or should we give them a call.. Whatever. If nobody else can be bothered I'll call, somebody can find their number for me though :)

Getting some good numbers down now

08-12-03, 13:47
Was wondering about contacting the pub also don't know how they would react at us just turning up?Can't see a problem with it though had a look yesterday fair bit of room there. There is another car park over the little bridge across the river maybe they would allocate us that space or a part of it as that way customers wouldn't be put off pulling in seeing us lot there as the second car park is set back away from the road..just a thought..:)

Btw, just thinking, doesn't the main street in Berkhamstead have a load of speed bumps?

If so, people with bodykits will have to take this into account.. is this pub on the main street? Looking at Mawby's map it seems to be..

The Flash
08-12-03, 14:10
assume this might cross with other replies, but the pub is outside of the High Street.

Access is very easy from the A41 Bourne End turning. About 1/2 mile from this junction - and no speed humps etc!!

Stu

  My idea!!Must admit agreed that it would be a good idea...but me organise a meet only been to one!!lol..Pulse your right about the high street but as mentioned its as easy to come in from the a41 bypass at bourne end..What about meeting there and having a chat etc maybe a drink then taking a nice sloooow drive over to Watermead..nice little run from Berko to Aylesbury and it does break it up a bit..think that was problem with Hatfield people just got bored standing in the freezing cold..personally thought the drive to the meet was better although enjoyed looking round the other cars had seen most of them at south mimms..As i said don't think it would be a major problem if we just turned up after all if we all turned up in different makes of car no one would bat an eyelid..just because we all drive the same motor shouldn't make any difference but agree it is the polite thing to do..maybe I'm just a rude old git!:p Anyone else up for the idea going off to Aylesbury or just a short cruise after all thats what they are for driving..:)

pulse
08-12-03, 18:15
Watermead sounds like a top idea to me - that's where I live :D

I'm basically up for whatever. A nice little cruise is always a top way to end a meet, and I've said previously the A41 is my favorite bit of road in the UK, however I'm hearing more and more about these "unmarked police cars" in the area which I gather is something I wish to avoid :)

Then again, from Berkhamstead to Aylesbury via the A41 must be all of about 4 minutes anyway.. or is that just when I'm driving?

Pretty much the meets I've been to, hang around chat a bit, maybe have a bevvy or two and then regularly go for a bit of a drive/convoy somewhere if the mood fits. It's basically down to the people on the day :)

Either way, sounds good to me

I'll call the pub tomorrow, but considering I'd expect everybody to purchase at least one drink of some description from the pub, I don't really see why we should - it's just a group of people getting together in an afternoon - as you said, if we were all driving different cars nobody would think twice, I think it's more the worry that "boy racers are invading the pub" which they may be concerned about.

Afterall, Mfs is a dodgy fella ;)

Stu, if you like the driving part then you'll have to keep your eyes peeled for then next Gumball event cause you're gonna love that. :D

 Thats what I mean Pulse if we all have a beer coffee etc they can't really say much.Your right though won't take long to get to watermead but it didn't take long to get to Hatfield but very enjoyable...lol.like I said new to all this so has anyone got any other suggestions on what to do..so far meet up at Old mill is definite but how going for a cruise somewhere doesn't have to be just to Aylesbury..must be lots of ya that enjoy driving around in a convoy and watching peoples jaws hit the ground when we all go past..just a thought..whatever is decided looking forward to it anyway.Someone remind Getaway driver to fill up this time though!!:p

The humps in the high street arent that bad, mines got crap ground clearance but I manage OK. I do have to take things slowly but that means people get to hear more of the hiper between the speed humps :)

Was hoping you'd pop your name down, didn't get much of a chance to chat with you at the .. Guildford? meet.

15 now, 2 maybes. Either way, we're starting to get some decent numbers :) I knew there was a decent amount of them around here, and I know Mark Kindell/Donna are both in Aylesbury but I don't know if they do many meets. I see other Supras around here regularly.

I forgot to call the pub again today :innocent: - will do it tomorrow. If we're talking 15 cars, I guess it's only polite :)

If anybody doesn't actually know where we're talking about driving, below is basically it (including the route around Berkhamstead town centre with the speed bumps), from pub to pub.

Except that Microsoft Autoroute 2004 doesn't include the Aston Clinton bypass that's now in operation, so we can either drive the way this says through Aston Clinton or.. around it at 70-XXX leptons :D

Weather permitting, of course.

Yep yep :)

Saturday the 10th of January, 1pm, Old Mill pub, Berkhamstead

I'm sure most of you know how to get there, but if anybody wishes to come from further afield it's pretty easy.. M25 to A41 turnoff, down the A41 (my favorite road:)) fast, scenic dual carriageway, turn off at the Bourne End junction and turn left towards Berkhamstead. I beleive the pub is on the RHS (I've never been there, but will go have a look before the date).

Definitely some good numbers now too. Millhouse is a possible too

Yes mate the pub is on the right as you come in from Bourne end..just before the esso garage..looking forward to the drive over to Aylesbury as the A41 is my favourite strech of road round here..Best bit is just past the turn off for Chesham and Berko..nice straight where you can really give it some and get up to the national speed limit!!:innocent: :innocent:

Heh cool that aint it? ;)

My website works with, IE, Mozilla, Lynx... :p

But then it is rather simple ;)

I've designed several websites but just can't be arsed with my own. I'm a bit of a stickler for writing code that adhere's to the correct standards. You can use http://validator.w3.org/ to check whether your code complies or not.

Jive
17-12-03, 19:32
Just been there Thorin and this is the message I get.

"I could not parse this document, because it does not include a DOCTYPE Declaration. A DOCTYPE Declaration is mandatory for most current markup languages and without such a declaration it is impossible to validate this document."

Jesus, it's only a bit of fun, it's not meant as a trade site or anything......really can't be arsed with all that stuff :(

Yeah you need a doc type declaration so it knows what type of document it's supposed to be checking the code for. e.g.
< !DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd" >

Jesus, it's only a bit of fun, it's not meant as a trade site or anything......really can't be arsed with all that stuff :(

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm just a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to writing web pages ;)

Jive
17-12-03, 19:47
I gathered that that had to go in the header, does it need to go onto every single webpage or just the index.htm ?

Plus I've only written or should I say designed it with Dreamweaver 4 and haven't done anything with XHTML :conf:

Any help greatly received :)

Thorin
17-12-03, 20:56
Very first line in the code of every page really. Dreamweaver does have an option to generate XHTML 1.0 compliant code but I don't think it's enabled by default. XHTML isn't vastly different to normal HTML though, just a few extra bits and a bit stricter with tags etc.

er sorry [/hijack] ;)

Jive
17-12-03, 23:48
Ok, cheers Thorin, I'll stick that in tomorrow and see what happens :)

How big is this pub we're talking about? With normal lunch time 'traffic' in the carpark is it likely to be able to fit 22+ extra cars?

18-12-03, 14:42
If it doesnt have enough space Im pretty sure the Crows Nest (I think its called that) at the end of the A41 could take a lot of cars. We used it after the G-force dyno day and it looked good. Not that much further up from Berko either.

I think even with the additional car park by the canal - we will be hard pushed to get this many cars in, especially if any other mortal DARES to try and park a non-Supe!

Should be a sight though wherever we end up. This is gonna be my first such meet, and am looking forward to seeing what all the mods actually look like that everyone talks about.

Not looking forward to the thought of my pride and joy NOT being the car that stands out in a car park though!!!!

18-12-03, 16:21
If it stays at these sort of numbers should be fine..Crows nest gets quite busy of a lunchtime.I will drive down tomorrow and have a good look see if we would all fit in..Can always take over the Esso garage as well!!lol

Alright, I'll have a look around a couple of other places on Saturday lunch time too (the Watermead pub in Aylesbury does have a fairly big carpark for what's there, and the back half of it is usually available, and it's a nice pub).. and maybe pop down and have a look at the Berkhamstead ones too.. try and figure out which is bigger and which is busier etc, just in case the venue needs to change :)

I know I got the 2 mixed up before, but as an option, what about the Watermill Hotel / bar in Bourne end? Doesnt that have an extra bit of space through the arch (going from memory so am probably miles off the mark) - and it has a couple of pubs over the road (White horse and ANOther) + that Outdoor shop next to them with a V big Car park (all poss overflows!!)

Other than that - there's always Leeeeeesure World !!!!!!!!!!!! I've heard the McD car park is THE place to be........

The Watermill would be a great alternative also Flash..fair bit of room there.I personally think most places will be quite dead after Xmas so shouldn't be a problem..As For Wally world no chance rather meet in Tescos car park than up that s**t hole!!

pulse
18-12-03, 17:27
Tesco's car park, now there's an idea! ;)

Actually, if worst comes to worst Aylesbury has 2 huge Tescos with gigantic carparks that are *NEVER* full, so we could actually meet up there .. and hey, there's a McDonalds over the road from one of them! :D

But as I say, it would be very much if WORST comes to worst :)

being a bird..and the only one in the household that goes to tesco's (dig at mark there) i can tell you now that you havent got a hope in hell at parking in either of the tesco's in aylesbury....at this time of year i struggle to park my car...theres no way you will get all in either..might want to think again guys. also watermead is closing for a refurbishment after xmas for a couple of months....sorry to be the bearer of bad news all:(

18-12-03, 17:44
.. what what what?

Watermead pub is closing? That's my bloody local! Oh well, good thing I'm moving house mid-January then :)

Yeah, Tescos at the moment is an absolute nightmare, but the meet is 11th of January, after the Christmas stuff is over :) I was thinking if worst came to worst, the Tescos by the McDonalds, the area of the carpark up the back next to the car breaking yard is usually completely empty.. that's where the kiddies do the donut competitions at night (there's always another sign been hit etc in that section after a weekend).

But Tescos is far from a.. err.. nice place for a meet :) I'll check out the pubs this weekend and see what's what. We can assume by the 11th of January most of the country will have settled down from Christmas and New Years (and a lot of people will go on holidays anyway, so they should all be less busy than they are now), but from the sounds of it the pub that's been chosen so far sounds pretty sound.

:)

Ok Watermead and Tesco is out so lets stick with the Old mill for now...failing that there is the Watermill at bourne end who I will contact over the weekend...As for wally world I think a nova is too good for up that pit!!Now if the meet was on the Sunday we could accomodate loads of cars round the back of the high st near waitrose and be right next to the rear entrance of a pub also!!Numbers wouldn't be a problem if it was a Sunday..plenty of space..

Langleys is a good idea if we can't get in at anywhere as the car park is huge as it's shared with the hotel there which isn't busy on weekend.

M4? Sure there might be a better way via Aylesbury etc, but I would go back down A41 to M25 J20, and from there you are no more than 15 / 20 miles from M4.......

Hope this helps

You need to go on the A41 towards Oxford, then take the a34 then the A40 to Gloucester - easy peasy!

I line near Gloucester Ash (have to meet up sometime when you are up). I also know of Wilfman who lives nearby too.

Where and when is this proposed meet going to be and what time are people planning to get there?

Cheers Dan

by far the fastest bit o A41 is southbound after the Tring junction and you've cleared the hill before the run to the Chesham turnoff.

You can get over 180 on the clock on a good day - allegedly.

As an aside - anyone know the theoretical max I could expect from a standard "J" TT

According to Autoroute, you want to go down the M40, around the M25 clockwise, then back up the A41 to Berkhamstead.

I, however, cannot believe that's the best way to go when the A329 will take you straight to Thame, then you can follow the A418 to Aylesbury then hook straight down the A41.

The Autoroute way has given a summary of 59.8 miles and 1 hour 23 minutes driving time. Plotting in my route has given 41.9 miles and 1 hour 33 minutes driving time. That's crap and the speeds along the A418/A41 should allow you to do it significantly better than that.

Patrick_Devlin
06-01-04, 14:48
You're right Tony,

The AA website gives that route (A418 to Aylesbury and then the A41) as 42 miles and an hour journey time. I reckon you'd sensibly be able to do that route in 45-50 minutes with good traffic.

Decent little blast down the A41.. Rob, if I knew you needed petrol I'd have told you to avoid the Texaco, they've had nothing for a week :) Oh well..

Still, a good turnout, and much as expected the pub had forgotten we were coming ("Next time if you give us some advanced notice, we'll set aside a section of the pub for you" "I called 5 weeks ago" "err.. oh.. I guess we must've lost it in the Christmas rush then") but still we had the entire rear carpark and enough room for all of us which was a good result.

See? It's not just the southerners that can do a meet.. we'll have to do it again sometime :) I think I counted 24 turning up at the end, but I'm not sure if that includes one that left. Watermead in the summer is great on the lake, will have to keep it in mind for later.

Flash you should have stayed for the drive to Aylesbury!

Hi All

PC's been down most of the day, so only just had the chance to log on.

Was good to put faces to names etc. Have to admit to realising I really don't have any knowledge of cars as soon as the bonnet is "Popped". Everything I saw looked impressive none-the-less!

Who's motor was it with the graphics down the side? Thats one hell of a looker - the car of course. (Not sure about the shiny Fire Extinguisher in the boot - would be a bi-itch to get at in an emergency!):D

Is it Pat's that is the Golden Brown(ish) colour without a spoiler ? Whosever it is - its the best coulour example I have seen so far - assume its not standard issue?

Stu - If I could have taped your Exhaust Sounds at the end, I could save myself a wedge!

Getaway - unfortunately, I completely under-estimated how long it would go on for (assumed the cruise was going to be mainly in daylight!) and had to head off the other way. I assume you managed to get out of the car park without losing too much of the car.

Batgirl - If you (or anyone) could tell me where you got the "Atari-esque" gear lever from - cool as  Seriously, would appreciate any clues as to where? How much etc. Was very impressed with your motor, those wheels are just immensely gorgeous.

Well, am glad to having my car back to being one of the best in the car park - rather than having to park far away in the corner to avoid the stares of all the cool kids on the block. Some (ok - most) of the motors on show looked the dogs nuts.

Now off to see how much it costs to install a decent exhaust (Was almost embarassed to drive off with my Mute standard), decent stereo, some flashy neons and a seatbelt light that stays on - cool!

See you all again soon - when I hope to have learnt a bit more and can offer more incisive comments than..." Its a clean engine!!"

Any suggestions where I can get a Do-luck front spoiler - sorry Jay but yours is so damn fine I want one too !! Still worried about the poxy road bumps in Berko cos I have no way of avoiding them into work everyday - has no-one invented a mechanism that raises the spoiler a bit to go over humps ????
I also need to get my alloys refurbed at some point but again not sure where is best?

Great meet guys, me and Susie thoroughly enjoyed it.

Rob - Got confused by what you said about going for petrol!

Flash - Yep, thats my one, "Bronze" or "Brown" or "MonkeyShitBrown", it is a standard colour as well although not that popular!

JB - Good to meet you finally

"Hemel Posse" - Good to meet you lot as well, must get a mini meet going!

The pootle down the A41 was interesting, despite my earlier assertions that "i'm not going to cane it" yeah right!!! :sly:

The car will be more responsive as you have removed a nasty restriction ( Cats). The boost will rise so you will get a significant rise in power ( different cars get different amounts so it's difficult to quantify). This is all Robs VVTi has done AFAIK and it goes very well. He does also have a boost controller though. You may need to install a restrictor in the exhaust. If you call Leon at JPS 01908 367100 ask him to do the same set up a Rob's.

Rob if you are still following this, what power did you make at G Force?

Not really Meet related, but as I saw it on the meet I figured .....

Can anyone shed light on the Auto Shifter which Batgirl has in her car (Former Mid'life crisis) and I'm sure I saw it on another one as well.

The best way to describe it is it looked like a kind of Joystick (Atari from the old skool) and it was kind of Chrome(ish)

Any help would be appreciated (Price, fitting etc)

Hi there - 313rwhp - estimated 420 bhp and (more importantly IMHO) 415 ft.lbs of torque at a point at which the gears can use the revs :-)

I have no restrictor ring - the boost controller seems to control the boost well enough to stop any creeping at all - lovely flat line plotted for al weather conditions - yes, even the damp on Saturday :D

I also have the uprated fuel pump and I can seem to stretch to 1.25 sometimes 1.3 bar boost but only with Optimax - with no detonation - Leon reckons this is okay - but would need bigger injectors for any more boost action.

One thing though - judging by the state of my oil Leon also recks I will need an oil cooler and / or gearbox cooler at somepoint soon :-)

There's lots more in the Razoo range I think.. If you have a look here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mark.kindell/page8.html) at Mark Kindell's site, he mentions a Razo/Razoo/whatever the hell it is shifter too.

It's in the small industrial estate opposite the Shell garage. As you go in it on the right. Can't remember what it was called

Nice to meet some of the snoopy geeks! I have heard loads about the page through Patrick, my b-friend (aka my biatch), and was beginning to think he was a little bit sad for frequenting it rather than getting on with some work. I love the cars, but wasn't too sure if car-related forums might be full of muppets and riceboyz. But now I am happy that you are normal and some of you even quite cool. Pulse - that's you, tony, right? (I don't know the alter egos/usernames yet!) I thought you were a feckin marvellous fellow, and Paul E/MatrixMan too (God help your daughter moving in though!) Chris was it? What's your username? Rob - nice to see you again. Can you definitely make sure you take Patrick off my hands for a night of beer soon! Anyway, good meet, must do another smaller one soon. The bigger, Jap Performance ones are great for the sheer volume of motor-eye-candy, but it's nice to be able to speak to people at greater length and go for a burn. Plus, there's no Novaboys to put up with in a supra-exclusive meet

Hey Susi, nice to meet you too. :D

I think some kind of inebriating night meet is definitely on the cards at some time after I'm finished with this moving hassle. Less cars, more drunk and disorderly behaviour. We should sort something out :)

We can either take Patrick off your hands, or you're more than welcome to come make a fool out of yourself too!

Damn it, if I'd known this page would provide me with a means of making him' disappear', thus allowing me to inherit a fine automobile, then I'd have signed up ages ago! How are you both fixed for Friday?

Rob - I'm not sure that there are many states of enebriation for Patrick - lashed or nearly lashed about sums them up. But just make sure if he does go for multiple pints that he's paying for them himself. He's from Irish decent and not particularly forthcoming with the old green stuff. His mother calls him a 'con artist' - say no more.. And I think we've established that no, I don't want him returned. I presume you take cash?

Pulse (nice username - following on from our pub conversation, I'd say perhaps this is the very thing the good old brits are lacking ;-))
After your move, a pub outing would be an excellent idea. I'm sure I can put up with Patrick for the evening! Poor thing, I don't want to have signed up to the page just to abuse him!
