Im moving to my new house this Friday.
Its a new build so has never had a phone before, therefor no phone number etc.
The line goes to the house but will assumably need connecting by BT.
Now Tiscali amoungst others do a package for £19.99 a month which is both Broadband & phone line included.
My question is if I get BT to connect me & give me a number then I will surely be contracted for 12 months of line rental at £13.99 a month. So I will not be getting free line rental with Tiscali, but if I dont get a connected line then I cant get connected with Tiscali in the first place as they need a number.
Can anyone tell me what you do in this scenario as Im getting no sense from these people.
Cheers in advance,

Carl

I'm buying a new build too at the moment. Bt demand £125 for the installation of the line (connecting your house up at the exchange) and you have to subscribe to a 12 month phone contract.

I have moved to new builds 3 times in 3 years and in all instances have found that I am stuck with BT for the 1st year.

Alright mate,

I can only go from my experience as I moved into a new build last June

I had to pay BT to install the new line (approx £[-]185[/-] 125 if my memory serves) and then I was paying BT line rental and had my broadband with Tiscali

Got fed up with paying through the nose for the line rental and broadband so moved to TalkTalk.

I moved to TalkTalk within 12 months without a charge so I reckon once you've been connected you'll be able to move to your chosen provider straight away

Hope this helps

Cheers,

Matt

I been ringing around and just called the Post Office(0800 0920514)
They do a package which includes Broadband & phoneline rental in one.
They will get me connected with a new phone number for £110 and then the monthly fee of £22.95 for upto 5gb download or £26.95 for unlimited download.
Both are upto 8MB and both cover phonecalls free evenings & weekend in the price.
Sounds like an easy option and apparently they use the same BT service that BT themselves offer ,only cheaper.
Unless I find better, I will probably sign up.
Im going to keep looking but this is the sort of package I want, hassle free, everything done by one place.
Dont forget both these packages include your line rental.

Good luck! Took me 2 months to get connected here. Your line has to be active for 5 working days before any provider can connect you. Loads of red tape and crap involved with it.
