  1. 1. How do you handle your steering wheel?

    • Like the driving instructor taught me, thread the wheel through the hands

    • Like the Stig, my arms get all twisted when drifting and doing those hairpins

    • Threading during normal driving and Stig style when giving it some

    • I use my knees and one finger to steer. The beauty of power steering eh

When I took my driving test, all those years ago, they said you have to thread the wheel through your hands as you turn.

Then you watch Top Gear and see how pro drivers drive etc and it's different, as I was instructed last weekend on a rally driving course, and you hold on at the 'quarter to three' position even when getting your arms all twisted when going round a tight bend.

So how do we drive our Supras?

Using my knees, as I don't want to drop my coffee or the phone.

Ahhhh - the joys of an auto ;)

EDIT: I've actually no idea of the 'correct' answer to this. I'll have to pay attention and see how I drive tomorrow, assuming that thinking about and observing my behaviour won't change it. I guess if I don't look at the speedo, I'll have a good idea about the position of my hands - lol

I prefer hand-over-hand, that way you always know exactly which way the front wheels are pointing without having to think about it.

Do be warned, however - if you have a steering wheel airbag, you use hand-over-hand and have your arms crossed over when the bag goes off, you're getting a faceful of forearm....

I was once told that the "10 to 2 and shuffle" came about because the steering wheels in the pre-war Rileys(?) used by the Hendon police driving school were so large, so vertical, so low-geared, and so close to the driver's chest, that it was the only way they could be steered.

Thats funny, you look far too relaxed for that sideways action...! :D

I have never thought about that, thats quite scary, luckily I have a momo with no air bag, at least I got my forearms to head butt though rather than the wheel..!
