Ian C has done this for his FMIC.

Not sure what components he used, but I would have thought washer jets would deliver the water in too big a "clump". Better to have a finer spray. I think that's what the Scoobynet guy may be getting at when he says a "higher density" spray.

Not a bad mod, would prob lower charge temp by about 5 deg, the pressure switch idea sounded ok.

I yanked most of it out when I got the earthing fault - my suspect wiring was the first thing to go under scrutiny :)

I had a lever microswitch on the left footrest, so your left foot would work the spray. It only reached the 'working prototype' stage before other problems distracted me...

I used a Halfords generic washer pump + hosing and dual spry nozzles. A fine mist would probably be a better way to go, but I angled the spray heads slightly away from the intercooler. That way, when actually moving forward at a reasonable clip, the spray would go out a bit and them be blown back onto the intercooler, somewhat spread out.

It also meant I could squirt people's ankles when it was stationary :cool:

No conclusive testing on any performance benefits. I just wanted to see if I could put it all together...

Having a manually operated system is handy for 'priming' the intercooler with water as you roll up to traffic lights. Having a manual gearbox, however, meant that the spray stopped when I changed gear!

Tell you what - try some VW Golf washer jets. They do a pretty good wide-area fine spray, and would be *perfect* for a home-made IC spray.

I'm doing this as we speak. Just brought a small pump from Halfords and some clear washer tube, just got to find a water bottle and somewhere to mount it and job done!

Pretty much the same as Ian C.

Just think how much better your car feels in the rain. Having IC spray should give a simelar effect.

What, you're fitting the nozzles in the rear wheel arches? You could have a switch that activated them above half steering lock and half throttle, just to keep you on your toes :rolleyes:

Yeah yeah very funny! Maybe I should re-phrase that.....

Just think how much more 'powerfull' the engine feels in the rain due to the extra cooling to the IC.
