is it possible to do one in a automatic?

can really dump the clutch? do u just rev in neutral then drop it into gear and left foot brake or start in gear, floor it, wait for spin then left foot brake?

reason i ask, goin to a drag strip in the year and need to warm tyres up and give a cool display :D

If you must do it, put it into drive, foot hard on the brake, then lift the revs until the rears start spinning. As you lift off the brake, give it some more gas.

However, as said already, this isn't good for the 'box. If you do it too many times, you'll overheat the fluid. Even on the first attempt, it is actually possible to blow the torque converter.

Never, ever rev it in neutral and dump it into gear when the revs are already high. If you don't break the gearbox, you may break something else in the drivetrain.

Don't do any of this at all if you aren't willing to accept the cost of repairing what might break.

hey ive got BPU supra which i rang at shakespeare a couple of weeks ago, i tried the whole rev it up then take ur foot off the brake thing but it sounded awful and im lucky the box didnt break...in the burnout patch just put ur boost up a tad and floor it in drive, im managed to do a nice burnout whilst moving, enough to look good and warm up my tyres.i won every race i did that day! :)...i wouldnt do it too often tho...my cars been running like a sack of spuds ever since, so of the THOR it is.... i ho i ho its off to thor we go...

I think donuts are ok in an auto.

If your doing left hand braking in an auto the temps will rocket up VERY quickly (a matter of seconds) so do your day with a couple of burnouts and then get a full flush afterwards.

So its only reving it high with the brake on thats a problem. :)

No, revving it full stop with the brake on increases heat massivly and will kill your gearbox....... on a positive note, if you kill your gearbox autobox's are cheap or you could go manual ;)

It's easy - you only need left foot to hold it 'til you break traction. Then you just mash the gas to keep it going, the faster you can make the wheels spin whilst not on the brake, the more you will stay still. To turn it into a rolling burnout (like I do to lay rubber down at the strip) just modulate the throttle 'til you feel yourself going forwards - the slower you then let the wheels rotate the faster you will end up going forwards. Eventually traction is regained and you will catapult forwards if still on the throttle.

This technique can be used to initiate donuts or to do some drifting.

Cheers,

Brian.

EDIT TO ADD - I have a BL auto, PI hi-stall TC, 3x transmission coolers and 1x trans cooler fan. I've found the autos are quite easy to break with such abuse and have spent numerous hours on my back under my Supra with my old man changing busted autoboxes.
