How long to replace SMIC ?

Can anyone thats changed a SMIC please tell me roughly how long it will take?

I'm in a bit of a dilema. I was gonna change mine today before tomorrows event at Marham as mine is shot but the replacement nuts, bolts and bumper fixings I ordered haven't been delivered.

I just spoke to the post office and they said they could be in the delivery van but couldn't say for sure. If they were they would arrive between 1pm and 3pm.

So, do I start the job now and hope they arrive this afternoon so i can finish it off? There is a risk of them not arriving and if things break when removing the bumper I could be without the car tomorrow.:(

Or, do I wait and see if they turn up and only start the job once I've got them? If they don't I will have to run with a shot intercooler which is not good.

If they do turn up will I have time to do the job without working late into the night?

What do you reckon ?

It depends how quickly you can take off the front bumper and put it back.

The SMIC can be swapped with the bumper in place (I've done it) but it is fiddly.

Thanks for the reply. Its a larger Trust SMIC do you think it could be done without removing the bumper still? Do you do it through the wheel arch ?

its easy to replace, you wont have to take the bumper off, what you need to do is :

1:Take the drivers side light off

2:Take your driverside wheel off

3: Remove the plastic cover in the inner arch , just behind the smic and remove the plastic over underneath the smic

4: then you got the SMIC fully exposed

5: The most difficult part is removing the bolt from the front of the smic that attches it to the side of the main subframe. But with the correct tools it should not be a problem.

use plenty of WD40. total time i would say 2 hours if you going slow .

good luck. make sure you wipe the hoses with degreaser before re-attaching them and if the jubliee clips look abit worn , change them, even put 2 clips on each connection to garrentee it not poping off as its a chew to get them back on when they pop off.

good luck
