Defi Oil Temp Sensor

Ok then, currently in the process of getting some bits together, one being some defi gauges.

I want to fit the oil temp sensor into the sump, so purchased a M12*1.25 to 1/8NPT adaptor.

I thought whilst off the car it would be an easier job to fit the sensor into the adapter, ensuring it was nicely sealed with thread sealant.

Anyway, the defi sensor would only screw into the adaptor for about half of its thread. After some stupid 'I man will not be beaten' type moment, I managed to completly shear off the sensor! Whoppdie Doo! So not only do I need to get another adaptor (as the broken sensor aint coming out for love nor money), I also need another sensor :(

Having looked on the defi site it appears they do sensors in 1/8PT and 1/8NPT fittings. Now I have no idea what the difference is, was that my downfall? Did I have the wrong size adaptor? Can anyone shed some light.

Cheers,

James.

an NPT threat is tapered so its designed to seal on the thread not the top.

it will only screw in about half way. Do not force it in even though it doesnt look right.

as long as you have some plumers tape on the thread before you insert it it will seal with an air tight seal on the thread.

hope this helps
