Got home from work today as normal, got out of the car and as I walked up the drive towards the front door I looked around at my supe like I do every day and noticed what looked like very thin whisp of steam foating up over the bonnet, up the windscreen and over the roof (with the wind).
So I stopped and stared at the car for a while waiting for more, but there wasn't, so I shrugged it off thinking nothing of it.
About half an hour later I nipped out to the shops which is like about a mile away and when I got back I could hear funny air bubbling noises coming from the engine bay, in fact I could actually feel it from the cockpit.
I noticed there was a puddle of brown water on the road where I had been parked before I went to the shops, so I checked the Rad first, looking into it I could see the fins so I topped it up with distilled water and ran it, the water was fluctuating up and down slowly indicating that the pump was working, the rad was not leaking.
The leak appears to be flowing down the side of the engine block (cahh!), I can't see exactly where without removing the manifold heatsheild, but looking like it's coming from somewhere behind the water pump, and it's proper pissing down the side of the block mind, not like a slow leak here.
I'm going to get it to my local garage for a look over this week, but I think I've eliminated a head gasket problem because: the temperature guage is normal, the engine runs and idles normal and smoothly, the oil looks clean and under the filler cap is clean, and the water isn't boiling, so I've ruled out the head gasket.
I'm assuming it's got something to do with the water pump or water return housing where it joins the block maybe, like a gasket on the water pump?
Has anyone experienced this problem before, or anyone have any ideas?
The Supra is an SZ-R if it matters.
Thanks.
