Hi

I wrote another thread today asking about my konis, I tried fitting them, the springs are used, about 5000km, so they're in good condition, and probably driven in so they have "sat down". However now the car sits lower on the drivers side, my question is, can I raise it on the drivers side (it now runs on the lower settings on both shocks) therefore making the car beeing more level? Can I damage the shock by doing this? I mean the car would look alot better beeing the same height around all corners. What do you think?

I think you'll find you have fitted a rear spring on one side at the front, and vice versa. Springs, unless totally *rap quality, don't settle enough to alter ride height noticeably.

No I haven't fitted them wrong, the fronts are where they're supposed to be, this is quite common according to supraforums.com . I have the right ones where they are supposed to be.

I have TRD springs fitted.

OK, dunno then, sorry.

Ok but does anyone know if I can raise it on the drivers side without it beeing bad for my shock, the konis have 2 height settings, lowest on both now, if I put on on the higher one on the drivers side, the car should level out.

Now I'm deffo not an expert, but I wouldn't have thought this would be good.
Surely the two shocks set at different heights will be working differently and thus ruin your handling?

Got this mail from KONI:

---

The shocks are not affected by the difference in ride height from the left to right side. They work by movement of the suspension and not by position.

In other words, if the car is sitting differently from the left to right side, you can try to use the other groove if you would like. It could also mean that there is another issue though like the springs wearing out or potentially an issue with the shock's gas pressure from one side to the other. Thanks.

---

I would think that the lean on the car would affect handling as much as setting the shocks different.
The springs can take more beating by doing this, but it would still be the same issue if I had coilovers, since I had to raise it more on the drivers side. This really is weird, but it seems to be quite normal for LHD cars to lean. Maybe I should ask my GF to eat more so the car levels out :)

Get the springs checked off the car. You certainly should NOT have to do this.

I have fitted literally hundereds of Koni shocks to many different cars, including the MKIV Supra, with no problems at all, they are a top quality product for the price. For a good quality damper to break its shaft you need to look at incorrect fitting or incorrect associated parts.
