lol least you didnt get frustrated and snap it off or something, what are you doing anyways? repspraying them or something?

lol i very nearly did, but then i just thought to myself be patient and ask someone on here. Yeah my whole car is stripped at the moment getting a full respray so i thought i might aswell take all the dash panels off and do them aswell. Now im just having fun geting that horrible rubber coating off, dont suppose you know of any easy ways of removing it do ypu?

if you dont mind getting messy and smelly use cellulose thinners this stuff brings the stuff off with ease and doesnt damage the platic underneath. Then to get a good finish id go through the grades if sandpaper think i used 240,400,800 and then finished with 1200 then just use a plastic primer and spray away!

cheers mate ive got all those sand papers ready to go im a really bad perfectionest so its going to take me ages to rub down. Im hoping the thinners works well though because so far its taken me 2 hours to remove the rubber off just one little panel with a little scrapper lol

lol bless i know the feeling im the same it has to look perfect, however the misses doesnt see it the same way and thinks i have some sort of problem!. The thinners will make light work of the coating its the working through the grades of sand paper that determines the finish i think it took my 30mins per panel just to sand down to the standard i wanted. What colour are you thinking of doing them?, ive messed about with a few colours including black, silver, antracite and gun metal, gotta say the gun metal looked best in my opinion then i used a matt effect laquer although most use glossy but i think it looks a little naff in my opinion. Just depends on your taste i guess good luck with it all be nice to see the end result:)

haha i know what you mean. I was thinking piano black or some sort of antracite i hate silver think it looks tacky. The car is being resprayed in msb (monkey s**t brown) so i even thought of that colour its a uk spec with cream leather so im not sure which will best suit it what do you reckon? where can you get matt laquer from.

i havent got any pics at hand as im in process of doing them again. however my free time is limited at the moment, ill get some if i think on tomorrow, the matt laquer i got from my local vehicle paint specailist they will point you in the right direction. Just had a quick look on the net for you and its pretty hard to find places that offer it in can form which is strange, must be a specialist product. I use a compressor and gravity feed gun so use it in chemical form rather than a can but found this for info, its a little pricey but shows in the quality end effect

their is a satin effect one on halfords although i have had no experiance with satin effect i imagine it similar to matt unless others have experiance of using it.

In terms of a colour i dont think you could go wrong with a gun gray metallic or equivalent but its all up to the indiviudal taste, totally agree with you on silver though didnt look nice at all.

cheers for that mate appreciate it. Do you have to use a matt paint with it? I might just sand it all down and primer it then hand it over to the paint shop to finish off for all the hassle its worth

as your getting it resprayed just have a word with the guy whos doing it. it wont be much more £££ for him to do those while he is there and your guaranteed a proffesional finish!
