View Full Version : Cheap 4x4?
I need something for lugging the dogs about in and was looking at jeep grand cherokee, anyone had one, plenty of them about cheap but dont want one if they fall to bits?
I saw one today in Aldermaston, R reg for £750, didn't look too closely so can't comment, want me to get a pic and phone number?
Failing that, what about a fiat panda 4x4 :) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1987-FIAT-PANDA-SISLEY-4X4-GREY_W0QQitemZ180227271714QQihZ008QQcategoryZ9843QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Blimey, that sounds to cheap, ive been looking at 2000 models for 2/3k, alternitivly merc ml's look ok aswell but are a bit more money.
Ill pass the panda:D
Jeeps are not worth much and are difficult to sell. My mate had one and parts were expensive and also there were no local dealers around.
ML are nice though.
I like the ml but they start at 6k, i can get a nice 2000 jeep with 80k for 2k.
cheap 4x4 runabout + merc ml = wish I was earning as much as you :(
Mercs are crap. Badge engineered Ssangyong Mussos.
Don't know about Jeeps so can't comment.
Shoguns are good but look like pikey chariots.

:(
How about a Legacy Tourer?
Shoguns are good but look like pikey chariots.
So true, they love em.:D
Pajero Evolution FTW
Pikeys car with a bit of chav slung in:D
How about a Legacy Tourer?
Some of the legacy's look ok but i prefer the bigger 4x4 really.
How about a Toyota Surf/4 runner, I had a 4 runner for a bit and really couldn't fault it.

Sounds perfect :)

Yea they are ok, cant find one local that looks ok though.
this is a bit over budget but its in the same village as me so ill go for a look and see if i can knock him down.

:p
For real kudos you need a old LR 110. :D
For real unrelibility you need a old LR 110. :D
;)
For real kudos you need a old LR 110. :D
Or maybe a Merc G Wagen:)
What about a Discovery 2? That's a proper 4x4. Depends on your definition of "cheap" I guess.... :)
6k is the max ill spend but would rather spend 3k, it will only get used once or twice a week.
LPG Landcruiser, should be reliable and cheaper to run ;)
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/398252.htm
Yea that dont look bad but its to far away.
I doubt you'll find a newer/more featured car than a frontera for your budget. I'm on my second - my current is the limited edition 210BHP 3.5v6. If you don't drive it too hard it will get MPG close to what the diesel version does (which is sh1te). I've had mine 3 years now, use it to chain harrow, tow horse boxes, traverse muddy fields, hay trailors, - never let me down.
Bang for buck can't be beaten.
Good car no doubt but im not keen on the frontera.
if your budget is the problem i have a terrano and a surf you can have for free, just a slight problem i have been runnuing them on site on red deisel and they would need a little t cut:d
ok how about a pajero then that i have also needs a little attention:D
For real unreliability you need a old LR 110. :D(misquoted)
;)
You can fix 'em with a hammer and screwdriver though. ;)
Have a look here Jamie, Hilux is really nice and reliable.

I'd go for a forester, but then I would say that as I am looking to get rid of mine. But it sounds like you want something bigger/ higher.
Cheers guys, ive set my heart on a ML now.
ive got a lwb 2.8td pajero for sale
Land Rover Defender - then you can have a bit of offroad fun too;)
Old thread, i had a change of plans and sold the Monaro, brought a supra and a new van for work and getting the dogs in, im looking at big cruisers now aswell, want something like a 7 series bmw for kicking about in.

I had a 745i for a while, a great car with loads of space and comfort, they cost peanuts as well, I sold a 97 P fully loaded for just over 3K last year, very difficult to sell as they do like to drink fuel
I wanted a 750iL but they are a bit harder to find/fund :)
Yea thats the sort of thing ill buy, ive had a couple of old 7 series years ago and loved em, will be handy when the nipper is here aswell (Leigh had another scan a couple of weeks ago and its a girl:)) as her 206 gti and my supra will be next to useless for family outings.:)

A girl, nice one ;)
Well they swallow up all kinds of baby stuff, buggy, bags etc as the boot is huge, very safe feel to them as well, I think it was one of the best cars I have owned, and it NEVER went wrong :D
Ths looks alright, is that to cheap? scam?

Like I say they are really tough to sell, that one looks just like an ex rep/MD's car, quite big mileage (which is no issue if its a FSH car), I would say it is genuine and a very nice spec indeed, worth a look and a lot of car for 5K

Invalid phone number, i reckon scam, damn nice car though:)You may be right. I thought I recognized the background. :) Either that, or somebody just paid way over the odds (£8100 instead of £5500) on eBay.

Amazon V8!!!!! heavy heavy drinker though!!!! the 4.2 TDi is a nice motor. I use my old mans 2007 LC3 3.0 D4D landcruiser and its a excellent motor. Much better then the Discovery he had and a million times better than the Terrano II !!

Thats the one! My sister had and done quite a few miles in it. Had to fit a new gearbox every 30 - 40 k miles. Engine was ok though.
Subaru GX, i know its not a proper SUV type thing but think theyr pretty cheap and that
