Decent camera?

Does anyone have any comments on this camera?

Im looking at getting a decent kit for a cheap price and it looks good to me

it'd be for use with taking random shots of my car alot and action shots at car shows etc

Iv always stuck with Fuji or Nikon my self, Cam looks good tho. im sure its just as good as any other. Shop around for a good price on google

I like Canon and Nikon, you could prob get a Canon 350D for similar money.

It's apparently very good... but as already mentioned Canon and Nikon are the two big names, and therefore you'll have much more choice when it comes to different lenses for it... Which after all is the main point of an SLR.

You need to go down and have a look mate see how it feels in your hands. The spec looks aright for the money :)

i got a olympus new sp550uz of amazon, they made a mistake on the advertised price £130 plus £5 p&p, as soon as i seen it i bought it, only to be contacted by them to say they had mistakenly advertised it and it should have been £300, i said tuff and as i had a printed receipt i wanted it! fair play to them, they sent it within a couple of days:d really great camera and fantastic build quality but have to say, there is so many features on it, it sometimes gets very confusing to know if youve taken a good pic or not!!!

Was just wandaring if it would be worth getting this (or a Nikon or Canon) slr camera if i didnt want to keep changing the lens.

I just prefer the look of these type of camera over a "normal" Digi cam if you get me

And surely a cam like this would produce pics of a much higer quality even if i was to just keep the standard lens thats comes with it

I have a Nikon D40 set and it still amazes me how quality pics you can do with it (+ have tons of functions I know only from name :D )

Danny how big are your hands? The Olympus dslr cameras use a four thirds sensor sytem and take advantage of it by making the bodys of the camera compact. They are good cameras and will take good photos, just make sure it feels comfortable when holding it.

The main point of a dslr is the control you gain over your photography, which allows you to take shots you couldn't with a compact camera. So not wanting to add to your lens collection immediately is not a problem. It will allow you time to learn the camera and what the lens will do before you add new bits.

While it is true that Cannons and Nikons have the largest selection of lenses available there is no problems getting lenses for the other makes of slr including Olympus, it just may limit your choice of supplier a bit (or mean you have to order it, instead of it being in stock).

I personally use a pentax K10D and think its great, takes excellent pics like all current dslr's on the market. I tried the olympus dslrs but found them too small in my hands compared to a normal sized dslr.

I think you would be better off with a prosumer type camera, it has some of the SLR features like aperture and shutter control as well as iso but doesn't need lots of different lenses to be effective at different photo sessions. SLR cameras really need a good selection of lenses to enable the best photos (im not talking about car photos here) and this is where the expense comes in.

Fuji make a very good prosumer type camera.

It would seem that The big names come more recommended but this model ive found isnt too bad at all

And the big names would be better for a range of lens, but as i say, for now im not too bothered about that.

Ill go see what its like in my hands as they are large ish and go from there

Yeah that too... but if you've no intention of buying any other lenses for it then in my opinion you'd be better off getting one of the prosumer "bridge" type camera's. There are a few advantages with these, decent zoom range and image quality without spending a lot of money on a telephoto zoom lens, don't have to worry about dust on the sensor etc., video mode, live preview (although many DSLR's now are getting that too), swiveling LCD screen.

The best advice though has possibly already been given, go have a play and see what you're happy with :)

I managed to pick up a Nikon D70 from Currys for £300 a while back... the basic lens I got is not fantastic (it's not the normal kit lens) but it still does the job nicely. Got a 1GB high-speed CF card and tripod thrown in too :)
