Guest tim_mac
cheers lads. yeah i was 5-6k, i shouldnt have much of a problem scraping that together but being 19 and having 3 points already me insurance will cost a bomb thats even if any1 will insure me! Chris-B
yeah insurance is gonna be a nightmare im afraid i got my first when i was 21 and paid 1200 for a 10month policy from elephant. I think you will be looking nearer the 2k mark. might not be useful to you but i just bourght a 6 speed twin turbo a month ago and for some strange reason the insurance was cheaper! its a strange thing the world of insurance
Guest tim_mac
very nice, i have never owned anything close to a super car but love supras. at the mo i am driving a nissan navara truck (hardly what you call fast!) drovve an evo8 and audi tt quatro but then had a go in supra and fell in love. so was thinking just start non turbo but thought an aerotop would be nice. does insurance make any diffrent whether you have it manual or automatic, manuals seem hard to come across! I know when i was shopping around for an insurance quote the manual was more expensive to insure (not much in it though, maybe 80quid or so) for me personally the manual was the only choice i really didnt want to get an auto as i didnt want to lose that part of driving(although from what i have read they are a very good box) ive got a silver manual sz-r that i need to get around to selling just havent had the time at the moment! i think starting of in the N/A is a just starting point as the power in a TT is kind of crazy(good crazy though:))to begin with anyway. Chris-B
Also just to add if your really after a aerotop then it will more than likely be auto as they never officialy made a manual version. However a few people have converted them to manual, but i imagine in very small numbers
Guest tim_mac
cool thanks for your help mate. yeah i would prefer a manual but for my first supra i will only have it a few years so just a non turbo auto will do because if i had a TT i think i would write it off within a week!!! Guest tim_mac
what mileage should i be looking at, of course most supras are over 10 years old and normally parts on cars need replacing they reach a certain mileage, can anyone give me details on how supras are for this and what mileage i should be looking at? thanks in advance
Chris-B
well ive not had one problem with either of my supra's apart from the obvious things such as tyres and stuff these cars are well known for their excellent reliablility so i wouldnt worry to much about parts needing replacing, their are a few common issues but most are not expensive to fix such as the boot rubbers which degrade over time and it results in an anoying rattling but this is a cheap fix so no worries!, both cars can be a bit of a handful in inexperienced hands of rwd cars, expect a few times when the back end will go especially on roundabouts! but for me thats the fun of a rwd drive car! Guest tim_mac
cheers for the help so you wouldnt worry about mileage just get as low as you can yeah? because i have seen quite a few but the mileage is sometimes well over the 100k mark and i didnt know if they where worth touching. Provided the car has been properly serviced the engine should be okay. On higher mileage cars I would be more worried about the condition of the suspension components, replacing worn dampers, arms, joints and bushes is not a cheap business. If you find one you're interested in post details and pics so we can give a visual once over. May also be worth asking if there is an experienced member in the area who can go with you to view it. I would also pay a specialist to get it on a ramp if possible and give it an inspection.

Welcome to the club. I've heard people say don't worry about the mileage - it's the condition of the car you should go on. With little to no Japanese service history, who knows how accurate the mileage is? Most aerotops are pre-facelift so will be 13 years old+, so mileage is likely to be high. If it's looked after, that shouldn't be an issue though. As Nic says, if you can get someone from here who knows what they're looking at/for to go with you to view, it could save you picking up a dog. Worked for me
Matt H
because i have seen quite a few but the mileage is sometimes well over the 100k mark and i didnt know if they where worth touching. All depends on what you want to do with the car, how long you think you will have it for. If you are going to just keep stock, then 100k + wont be the end of the world, but dont single it Unfortunatly, your older reg supras are going to be seeing more and more miles. 93's are 15 years old now so you are going to be hard pushed really to find a low milage pre-facelift
Guest tim_mac
right, well as you where saying i dont know how long i would have it for, i have wanted one for so long that when i get one i doubt i would let it go haha. well as i said an aerotop would be great, i spend alot of time in a little surfing village in wales called abersoch so an aerotop supra round there in the summer would look the bollocks!!!! for my first one i dont think i would do much to it performance wise, (dont want to kill myself by upgrading it to something i cant handle!) but i think after a while i would be moving onto a TT and maybe looking to get a few upgrades for it when i get used to handling a more powerful car! i like this site every1 is friendly and helpful, cheers guys
