I think my friend is having the piss taken out of him by the company he works for, I believe there is 2 laws to protect the employee

1. Cant make you work over a 48hour week unless you sign it away and wave it (EU law?)

2. is to do with working so many hours in a day or shifts, or something about a 10 hour gap between working.

anyway its the 2nd one im interested in. Does anyone have information on this law and maybe a link to goverment page.

thanks

1. Correct.

2. 11 hours for an adult.

There are exceptions though.

Hmm not sure if it counts in his situation.

He works in similar job to me where are on call out of hours, however here we arent too bad if you get called and working for a couple hours in night you can have a lie in to catch up on sleep.

But his place is strict you could be up to 2am to 5am and expected to be at work for 9am and I dont think thats right. I could be wrong though!

The above laws only apply to employees. Every employee is a worker but not every worker is an employee. You need to make sure he is not self employed or a contractor.
